My name is Sara Ferry Morgan, and I am the hidden electric child. I have witnessed what Elgen can do and I know some people end up being tortured and sometimes Elgen tries to kill them. A life that way is just terrible. I would give anything to avoid it.
See, when I was born, Mom was rich and put about as much money as I will need until I'm 60 in a savings account. In sixth grade, I had known about my powers for two years, I finally showed Mom. She got scared that I would kill her and she gave me the card to my savings account and I started walking. I can check in to a hotel whenever I want, everyone knows who Mom is. Hatch just doesn't suspect her to be the one who had the electric child.
I have all the powers. Anyone at Elgen couldn't beat me in a fight. This is why I stay hidden. Now I'm homeschooled by whoever is the manager at the hotel I'm staying in at the moment. I'm 14 and turn 15 tomorrow. I'll go get myself a Dr. Pepper and a hamburger and a small piece of German chocolate cake from Smith's. Right now I'm in Pasadena California but I don't think Hatch would find me.
I carefully walk to Smith's, watching for a sign of Elgen. Living on the run with no family you have seen for four years kind of trains you to watch your surroundings accurately. About my dad, he walked out of the room when I was born and killed by the electricity.
Now that I have my things, I walk back to the hotel and eat my cake and drink my Dr. Pepper. Another year of surviving, I think. It's the only thing I have left. It's my life now and I can't do anything about it.
