I closed my eyes, my breath shallow and heavy. The closed doors in front of me hid the beautiful music, laughing voices, and quiet tears.
"Stop it Hermione." I whispered to myself. "You can't think this way. It's your own wedding, for god's sakes."
I couldn't stop thinking about him. His tall, broad shoulders. The way his brow arched when he was confused. The way his shirt crumpled up on the sides when he was tying his tie. His eyes- soft and beautiful.
"Hermione? Are you alright?"
I nodded at Mrs. Weasley, looking forward and adjusting my long, white dress.
"I'm fine."
"No you're not. Wedding jitters, I know. I remember them well." She joked. "But don't worry. They disappear soon enough."
I smiled and bit my lip, once again closing my eyes.
"Darling."
My mother and father came around a corner, their brown eyes sparkling.
"Are you ready?"
They all looked down at me, anticipating my yes.
If only I could bring myself to say no...
But I nodded weakly and put on a smile.
"This isn't fair." My mind cried. "You don't want this! He doesn't either! Why are you doing this?"
But I walked down the aisle, arm in arm with my father, each step seeming heavier than the one before.
Ron stood on the platform of the wizarding wedding chapel, looking great in a traditional black and white tuxedo. His red hair was gelled back, and he looked nice. Really nice.
"Dearly beloved," The minister began. "We are gathered her today to join together..."
I looked out the window for a moment until I realized people were staring at me.
"Hermione." Ron whispered, smiling fake and glancing at the people watching. "Answer the question."
"Hmm?"
Laughs echoed through the chapel.
"Do you, Hermione Jean Granger, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold, in richer and in poorer, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, as long as you both shall live?"
I stared at him for a moment before nodding. "I do."
The minister repeated the question to Ron before saying, "If anyone should protest against the union of this couple, speak now or forever hold your peace."
Silence. There was always silence.
I missed noise in those 10 seconds.
"Very well. May I have the ring-"
"I do. I protest."
A voice shot out from the doors that swung open.
A man- the man I loved most in the world- looked straight at me. His white/blonde hair was ragged and sweaty. He wore jeans and a long sleeved, blue T-shirt. His cheeks were flushed. But still, he looked more handsome to me than any other person in the world.
Draco.
"I- um-"
"Hermione, I love you."
My mouth dropped open.
"And this is a mistake- you marrying him- because you might think you love him, but I know that it's not true. I love you, and you love me. Admit it."
Every eye was on me- waiting for an answer I would have to give.
"I... I..."
I closed my eyes for a moment, then opened them, taking a step forward.
"I do."
Gasps rang across the room. But I was already halfway to his arms.
As we ran out of the chapel, I saw Ron looking longingly at Lavender Brown, and I knew everything would be alright.
