Disclaimer I own nothing regarding Fairy Tail, or the song 'Snow Fairy' by FUNKIST. Though, I claim right to this oneshot's plot.

Fairy, where are you going?

It was a song that Mama often sang to her when the darkened sky roared in anger and cried in depression.

Lying in bed, with the blankets pulled close against her shoulders, she would whimper and emit an eep whenever the windows flashed. Lying in bed, with the blankets pulled close against her shoulders, she would shiver and tears would well at the corners of her eyes whenever the Gods bellowed.

Then gentle footsteps, drowned out by the pounding rain against the mansion's roof, would make its way over to the door. It would slowly creak open and Mama would glide over to the shaking ball of fear at the center of the bed. A soft, caring hand placed ever so gracefully, as if hovering, over the blanket and she would flinch.

"Lucy," Mama would whisper, voice reassuring as she would sit down and pull the blanket aside. "Let's not hide your pretty face now," Mama would joke. But more than often, she would launch herself at Mama's waist with silent tears streaming down her cheek. "There there," Mama would say in comfort whilst stroking her hair.

Mama would move to the headboard and she would follow suit, if only because she refused to let go. Tucking her in, head on Mama's lap and shoulders properly covered by her blanket, Mama would wipe away the tears, saying, "Lucy, honey, girls shouldn't cry." Then she would sniffle, saying cutely, "But Lucy is scared of lightning."

In a hushed, delicate voice, "If Lucy were to continue crying, the snow fairies won't come for her during the festival." Another sniffle; she would ask Mama to tell her the story again. A laugh, a laugh that she fails to forget, and Mama would start. When a person dies, they have two choices: to become a star that brightened the roads at night, or to become a snow fairy. Once a year, glistering in the moonlight and hopping along the skies, snow fairies would sort out the cutest and most well-behaved children, and bring them on a journey to the moon. At the moon, everyone was a fairy princess with wings that glowed bright and grew big as your smile.

"Mama," she would say after the story, "sing me the song." Another laugh, a laugh that she fails to forget, and Mama would start. 'Fairy, where you going?'

Don't say goodbye.

Lucy's older now; she grew past her fear of lightning and thunder. As she looked up at the darkened sky, coated with clouds of gray, she climbed into bed. Wrapping herself in her blanket, back pressed against the headboard as she curled her knees close to her chest, Lucy dropped her head against her arm. Closing her eyes, everything came back; a vivid memory that stayed forever burnt in her mind.

The warmth of her bed, the fragrant of her mother, the soothing touch of Mama's caressing hand, and Mama's voice. As she tired herself to sleep, Lucy licked her lips. It came out cracked: 'Don't say goodbye.' She was never able to mimic Mama. Slowly drowning into a comfort slumber, a tear trickled down from her eye whilst dreaming of snow fairies.

Mama, glistering in the moonlight and hopping along the skies, was reaching out to her; Mama's wings were bright and big, like her smile.

I hope you enjoyed this oneshot - although the anime isn't really as well as I wished it to be, the opening song is beautiful imo :D
