A/N: Alright, it's time I wrote this.
Lily. If you asked her classmates about her, you'd get a variety of answers. She'd crushed on the same guy since kindergarten, cried all the time, was hurt easily, and extremely smart. Reads books too much.
James. If you asked his classmates about him, you'd get a variety of answers. Lily had crushed on him for many years, he'd had a crush on her, but what could two fifth graders do about that? Has a select group of friends.
Marci. Lily's best friend since first grade. Marci's mom died last year, and Lily had gone to all of the services. They had sleepovers every Thursday. But they had grown apart.
Linzi. The new girl, had been best friends with Lily for a few weeks. Now she and Marci were best friends, with inside jokes and the whole package. She and Marci are always leaving Lily out, and love to poke fun at her behind her back.
Kay. Lily's good friend, good friends with Sari. Kind of hurt because Lily is always trying to get along with Marci and Linzi instead of her.
Sari. Kay's good friend, sorta friends with Lily, good friends with James.
A conversation between Linzi and Lily. Begins with Linzi.
"That's it! Lily, you're my best friend now. I'm so sick of Marci!"
"Really?" Totally bewildered, but suddenly included.
"Yeah." Hooks arms with Lily. "C'mon, let's go play on the states."
"Ok!"
Girls playing on the blacktop. Marci comes over.
"Linzi! Lily's MY best friend! You can't have her!"
"Yes, I can. You were mean to her, so I get her now."
"Can't we all be friends?" Lily likes having Linzi rather than Marci, but doesn't like excluding anyone.
"No. Three best friends never work!" Linzi, turning to Lily like it's obvious.
"I think it could."
"Don't be silly, Lily, Linzi's right."
"Oh, Marci, I can't take it anymore! I'm sorry!"
"Aw, Linzi! Me too! You'll always be my best friend!" Girls laugh, and run off. Lily is left feeling dejected, knowing they did it on purpose but refusing to admit it. Tears swell, and she runs.
Conversation between Kay and Lily. Begins with Kay.
"Lily, are you okay?"
"Yeah. Fine." Barely able to choke out the words.
"C'mon, let's go play on the playground with Sari."
"Ok… thanks, Kay." Lily smiles.
"No problem. That's what I'm here for!" Kay grins and drags Lily along.
Soon the girls, along with Sari, are laughing. Lily seems okay now. Bell rings, and classes line up.
"Lily! You're my partner today. Linzi's with someone else."
"Oh, okay, Marci! Kay, you don't mind, do you?"
"No. I'll do it with Sari." While Lily walks away, Kay sighs. When will that girl ever learn?
A/N: Story of my elementary school life. Threw the 'James' in there for kicks, if you went to my elementary school, you'd know. If you really wanna know, PM me. Anway, 'That girl'(me) didn't really learn how to be truly happy for a while. AKA, it took until 7th grade and a transfer of schools to really learn. Now it's super-happy-peppy me! HIIII!
