~Cinderella
In despair, Cinderella ran from her stepmother and stepsisters, who haughtily left in their horse-drawn carriage for the grand ball. Her stepmother had promised! Cinderella had finished all her chores, so she should be allowed to go! So what if her dress and jewels were borrowed? It wasn't as though she had anything of her own. They had taken all of it, reduced her to less than a servant.
The young woman threw herself down and buried her face in her arms, sobbing with abandon. It wasn't fair! Cinderella would stuck in this horrid life, serving her jealous, cruel stepmother for the rest of her days.
Her breath hitched as she heard a strange noise, and she slowly raised her eyes, searching the source. It sounded as though it came from behind her. Cinderella sat up and whipped around, eyebrows shooting up in wonder at the sight that greeted her.
A tall blue box that had not been there before was beside the fountain. It was apparently magical, fading in and out as though it were a shimmering mirage in the heat. The whining noise steadily grew louder, and the box more solid, until it altogether stopped.
The door swung open, and Cinderella pushed herself to her feet and approached it. Her misery was quite forgotten. Now she was curious, and an elating sense of adventure filled her. She stepped inside and the door closed behind her.
