A Big Surprise

It has been twelve years since Ponyo and Sosuke were brought together for good, and Ponyo was still truly in love with the boy. They sat together at school, they ate lunch together, they played games with one another, walked along the beach side-by-side and visited Fujimoto occasionally. Life for Ponyo couldn't have been any better.

Every morning, she woke up with a smile on her face as bright as the rising sun. Even when she had a bad sleep. She was just happy. As happy as anyone would be in their paradise.

One morning, Ponyo and Sosuke took their hike to school as usual, laughing and chatting along the way. "I'll race you, Sosuke!" Ponyo laughed warmly.

"Alright," Sosuke said with a smiling yawn. "I'll count off. One. Two..." He shot ahead and yelled back to the girl, "Three!"

"Oh, you silly cheater!" Ponyo giggled and chased after him.

They made it to school right on time, and they walked to the entrance, panting heavily. "Yay, school!" Ponyo cheered.

After school, Ponyo stood by the school doorway, waiting for Sosuke to come out and walk home with her. She watched curiously as he finally stepped outside, but with someone else. Another teenage boy. They talked a little longer, their hands joined together, and they parted. Sosuke sighed and watched the boy walk away.

Ponyo walked over, "Who was that? He looked really nice. Is he a friend?"

Sosuke looked a little troubled, "Eh, yes."

"Cool! I wanna meet him too!"

Sosuke put his hand on Ponyo's shoulder, "You will."

An hour later, Sosuke suddenly stopped and looked around himself, and Ponyo stopped next to him.

"What is it?" she asked.

"I need to tell you something I should have told you a few years ago."

Ponyo filled up with excitement as her heart thudded.

"Ponyo, I wanted to tell you that I... that I..." Sosuke gulped.

Yes, yes yes! Ponyo's lips began to curve upward.

"That I'm... I'm gay!" Sosuke looked at Ponyo in despair.

"Gay?" Ponyo tilted her head to the right in confusion. "But that's a good thing, right? I'm happy that you feel gay."

"No! Wrong kind of gay, Ponyo. You know..."

Ponyo tilted her head to the other side.

"Homo," Sosuke said, "Homosexual, eh..."

"Homo? I'm confused."

He began fiddling with his hands, "Um, I like boys."

"Okay. I like boys too. I like girls and boys."

Sosuke was silent for a while."But not in that way, I like them in the other way..."

"You mean... love?"

"Yes, Ponyo. I am gay."

Ponyo grasped what he was saying and gasped, "You're gay! Oh my god! Sosuke is gay! Nooo!!!"

"W-what is it, Ponyo?"

"Ponyo loves Sosuke!"

"Oh, Ponyo. I love you too. Let's be best friends forever."

"Ponyo can't marry Sosuke," Ponyo sobbed and Sosuke hugged her.

"You can always live with me, how about that?"

"But I love you..."

"I'm sorry! I can't help it!"

Ponyo dried her tears and they both continued walking. "Hey Sosuke?"

"Yeah?"

"Why didn't you tell me this before I turned back into a human!" she bonked him in the back of the head.
