So I have watched the finale twice and have spent a few hours fangirling on tumblr/fanfiction before deciding to write my own thing. There will be an eventual Daniel/Peggy pairing (my fav name so far for them is Peggysous) but the relationship is not yet established. Please read and review.
It was the day after Peggy Carter saved New York but Jack Thompson took all the credit. A day after Daniel Sousa plucked up the courage to asked Peggy out for a drink. A day after they solved the biggest case since the end of the war.
They should have been celebrating.
But instead they were all bored to death, waiting for something exciting to happen, anything really. It was about noon when one of the agents in the room.
"Well after everything that happened yesterday I can't in good conscious send out Agent Carter to get our lunch, so who wants to take a turn?" asked Agent Wallis, Peggy smiled to herself. No one volunteered.
"Well I don't think you really want me to do it" said Daniel. A few more minutes of silence passed before Peggy Carter laughed.
"You men really are hopeless without a woman to do things for you. Relax, I'll call a friend of mine, she's a waitress at a local diner I'll see if she can have something delivered." Said Peggy, picking up her phone.
"But that would still mean you taking care of our lunch, which we just agreed not to let happen." Said Daniel, Peggy was about to retort when Jack came out of his office.
"I've dealt with enough change recently, just let Carter get lunch she's good at it plus she already knows all the orders." Said Jack before walking back into his office. Daniel got up and was about to go after Jack, the anger clearly etched on his face.
"Daniel!" said Peggy behind him, Daniel turned to face her.
"After everything that happened he still treats you like a secretary" said Daniel.
"Daniel I really wasn't expecting that to change, it's no use going after him. I'll order lunch." Said Peggy.
"No, let me." Said Daniel, picking up his own phone and dialing the number for the diner.
-L&L Automat, Angie speaking.
"Hey this is Daniel Sousa, you may not remember me but I work with Peggy, anyway is there any way you could deliver a lunch order for about five people?" asked Daniel.
-Yeah sure thing, what'll it be? Asked Angie
"Uh, a BLT for me. Peg what do you want?" asked Daniel, turning to Peggy.
"Hmm, I'm thinking chicken parmesan." Said Peggy
"Chicken parmesan for Ms. Carter" said Daniel into the phone.
-Ok, what else? asked Angie.
"What do you guys want?" asked Daniel
"Get me a steak sandwich." Said Wallis.
"Same" said the other agent.
"Jack usually gets a steak sandwich as well." Supplied Peggy.
"Ok, a steak sandwich each for Wallis, Smith and Jack Thompson, but do me a favor? Put peanuts on Thompson's." said Daniel.
-sure thing, it'll be dropped off in about 20 minutes said Angie.
"Perfect, thank you." Said Daniel before hanging up.
"Daniel, Jack is allergic to peanuts." Said Peggy.
"Not majorly, only enough to give him some discomfort throughout the day, and you know he won't complain. Because he's a big boy." Said Daniel.
"It's your funeral, because when Jack gets pissed. I am not covering for you." Said Peggy.
"And I don't want you to." Said Daniel, smiling at her.
"Good" said Peggy, returning to her work, everyone else did the same, working in silence until Jack reappeared fifteen minutes later.
"He Carter I just got a call, foods out front, I told them to charge it to my card, can you get the food?" asked Thompson, Peggy nodded and began to stand up.
"I'll get it, my legs are getting stiff anyways." Said Wallis, getting up and walking out the door. Wallis returned a moment later with the food, passing it out to everyone until bringing Jack's to his office. A few minutes later they heard coughing coming from Jack's office.
"How mild is his allergy?" Peggy asked Daniel.
"File said rash and cough." Said Daniel as Peggy's phone rang.
"That better be all" said Peggy as she answered the phone. "Hello?" she said.
-Hey Peg, could you maybe drop by the diner after you get off? I need to talk to you. It was Angie.
"Yeah sure Ang, I'll be there around four." Said Peggy.
-Swell, I got to go bye! Said Angie before abruptly hanging up.
"Carter that better not be a personal call!" shouted Jack from his office.
"So what if it was, it's not like there's anything better to do." Said Carter, Jack stormed from his office, his face red and puffy and his eyes were watering.
"Are you alright Jack?" asked Peggy.
"I'm fine Carter, and if you want something useful to do go organize the file room." Said Jack, glaring at the other agents who were trying not to laugh.
"I've done that already, unless Sousa messed it up again when he was filing his reports earlier." Said Peggy, smirking at Daniel to let him know she was kidding.
"Hey. My filing's impeccable, Wallis is the one who messed it up again." Said Daniel.
"So someone go fix it! And Carter, were there peanuts in the lunch you ordered me?" asked Jack.
"I did not order lunch today Thompson, I was in the powder room." Said Peggy.
"I ordered lunch today, sorry Jack I didn't know you were allergic, I hope it's not too serious." Said Daniel.
"You son of a bitch, you knew I was allergic, I told you I was allergic when you offered me peanuts on Monday." Said Jack.
"Sorry, must've slipped my mind, you know with everything going on recently." Daniel apologized again. Jack didn't respond, he just stormed back into his office and slammed the door. Peggy turned to Wallis.
"Seriously Wallis, did you mess up the filing again?" asked Carter, Wallis nodded.
"Sorry Peggy." Said Wallis sheepishly, Peggy groaned and stood up.
"Ok, I'm going to fix the room again." Said Carter.
"Do you want help?" offered Sousa.
"No, thank you Daniel." Said Peggy before leaving the room. Wallis waited until he was sure Peggy was out of earshot when he said.
"Come on Sousa, are you sweet on her? You are, aren't you?" asked Wallis.
"Come off it" said Daniel, forcing out a laugh.
"Oh come one, we can all see it, so there's no use in denying it." said Smith.
"Will it get you two to shut up?" asked Daniel, both agents nodded.
"Yes" answered Daniel after a minute of silence.
"Alright so why don't you ask her out?" asked Wallis.
"I tried that, she shot me down." said Daniel.
"No she didn't" said a voice behind them.
"Stark! Are you ever gonna stop breaking in here?" asked Daniel.
"I only do it when necessary, and now it's necessary, and just so you know, Peggy did not shoot you down. What she told you was the truth, she had an appointment with Angie. Since they both got kicked out of their apartment building, they needed a place to stay and I have a house to offer them." Said Stark.
"Wait they're staying at your house?" asked Daniel, shocked by the impropriety of it.
"Relax" said Stark while holding his hands up "I'm not there, I'm going back to Europe for a bit, many beautiful ladies there." Said Stark.
"Ok so why are you here?" asked Wallis.
"I'm here to negotiate the return of my property, I want to destroy everything. Recent events have proven to me just how dangerous those inventions can be when they fall into the wrong hands, better if no one has them." Said Stark.
"You can take that up with Agent Thomson, don't be surprised if he says no." said Peggy, walking back into the room.
"That was fast" remarked Smith.
"Wallis didn't actually make a mess, was there an alternate reason you sent me down three flights of stairs?" asked Peggy.
"Dammit sorry Carter, I must've dreamt messing it up." Said Wallis.
"Alright well them I'm off, I have an appointment." Said Peggy.
"Your shift isn't up, and you're not meeting Angie till four." Remarked Sousa.
"I know I said that but there was something in her voice, I feel like she needs help now, if y'all really miss me that much you know where to find me, just don't come in guns blazing again." Said Peggy, grabbing her coat, meanwhile Howard walked into Jack's office and took one look at his face.
"You know I can fix that." Said Howard.
"What do you want Stark?" asked Thompson.
Peggy got to the diner just after 1:30 in the afternoon, she walked through the doors to find the diner empty except for Angie who was wiping down the counters.
"Angie! What's going on? You sounded weird on the phone, I thought I ought to come as fast as I could." Said Peggy.
"Oh hey English, yeah I just needed to talk." Said Angie.
"Where is everybody?" asked Peggy.
"Gone home, manager had us close up early, there's been bad news all around today." Said Angie.
"Why what happened?" asked Peggy.
"You know about what happened at the theater downtown? Of course you do you investigated it, anyway my manager was related to some of the people there so he closed early to show respect or something." Said Angie.
"I'm sorry" said Peggy.
"Yeah and I got a call from my mother, my brother isn't doing so well." said Angie.
"I'm so sorry Angie, is there anything I can do?" asked Peggy.
"No not really, but thanks anyway. I was wondering, why did Daniel ask me to put peanuts on a steak sandwich?" asked Angie, Peggy smiled.
"Daniel was pissed and Jack's allergic to peanuts, not severely, but enough to cause this rather disgusting rash on his face." Said Peggy.
"That explains it" said Angie, smiling.
"Yeah, so I'm ready to get back to Stark's if you are, I'm sure there is some very expensive alcohol we could drink to drown your sorrows." Said Peggy.
"Sounds good English, let me just grab my coat." Said Angie, as they were walking out the door Angie asked Peggy an important question.
"So, though only having met him once, I can tell Daniel likes you, like a lot, has he asked you out?" asked Angie.
"Yes actually, on the same night I was showing you Stark's place, I said I couldn't go because I had an appointment, which I did." Said Peggy.
"Do you not like him back?" asked Angie.
"No I…I don't know, I loved a man once but he died in the war, and I'm still trying to move past that. But Daniel's nice, and he was the only one in my job to treat me as an agent instead of a secretary." Said Peggy, trailing off.
"And he's cute" said Angie.
"Yes and there's that" said Peggy, laughing despite herself.
"So there's your answer, when are you going to tell him?" asked Angie.
"When he asks me again." Said Peggy. They had finally reached Stark's massive house.
The following day at the SSR Daniel Sousa walked in around nine o'clock that morning, discovering that he was the last to arrive that morning.
"Where's Carter? She usually gets in before I do." Said Sousa.
"Dunno, boss doesn't like it too much." Said Wallis.
"She's probably just running a bit late, she's an agent she's not perfect." Said Smith, Daniel nodded and sat down, opening up yet another file on the Stark case. About an hour later, Jack came out of his office.
"Carter still not here yet?" asked Jack.
"No, did she call in sick or anything?" asked Sousa.
"If she had would I be out here asking where she is?" asked Jack, Daniel stood up and put on his coat.
"Where are you going?" asked Jack.
"To look for Carter, I'll be back soon." Said Daniel, moving past Jack and toward the elevator.
"Be careful Sousa" said Jack to his back.
"I can take care of myself Thompson." Said Sousa.
The first place Sousa went was the Stark residence, when he knocked on the door Jarvis answered.
"Agent Sousa, this is a surprise." Said Jarvis.
"Is Carter here?" asked Sousa.
"No, she and Angie were gone when I arrived here, I assumed they had both gone to work." Said Jarvis.
"Ok thanks" said Sousa, turning to go.
"Is she not at work?" asked Jarvis.
"No she's not, at least she wasn't when I left. Good day Jarvis" said Sousa.
"You'll tell me, if you can't find her?" asked Jarvis, Sousa turned back.
"Yes, I promise I will keep you updated." Said Sousa.
"Thank you Agent" said Jarvis before shutting the door.
Sousa headed to the diner, where he found Angie waiting on customers.
"Angie! Can I have a minute?" called out Sousa.
"Yeah just give me a sec, go sit at the bar." Said Angie, Daniel did as she said and Angie appeared a minute later.
"What can I help you with?" asked Angie, getting a pot of coffee ready for her customers.
"Do you know where Peggy is?" asked Sousa, the question stopped Angie in her tracks.
"I assumed she was at work, she was gone before I woke up but as she always goes to work early I didn't think anything of it." said Angie.
"She never made it there, excuse me I need to find her." Said Daniel, getting up and leaving quickly before Angie could say anything else.
Daniel was glad he brought a walkie with him.
"Thompson can you hear me?" asked Sousa into the walkie.
-Go came Thompson's voice a moment later.
"Peggy show up yet?" asked Sousa, praying that the answer was yes.
-No, I take it you haven't found her? Asked Jack.
"No, she's not at Stark's or the diner, no one's seen her." Said Sousa.
-Alright what's your plan? Asked Jack.
"I was gonna go back to Stark's and see if I can find out where she's went, or was taken." Said Sousa.
-Alright, I'll send a team to join you, I'll canvass the bridges, airports and piers, anywhere she could've gotten out of the city. Said Jack.
"Alright, I'll check in later" said Daniel
Please, no matter how you felt about this, leave a review and tell me if I should continue!
I would like to stress that I know that allergies can be very serious and life threatening, and if I offended anyone or hurt anyone's feelings I am truly sorry, I just couldn't think of a better prank.
