Chapter One

"Olivia I want you to put your gun to my head and blow my fucking head off." said a wary Casey Novak as he paced around her apartment. The two friends were having dinner and chatting about the Darius Parker trial. Casey stopped pacing and faced Olivia who had a look of bemusement on her face. "C'mon I trust you to kill me."

Olivia busted out laughing at the A.D.A's absurd words. "Case being suspended with pay is not that bad..."

Casey sat down and buried her face in her hands. "What am I supposed to do for a month? I don't have a lot of friends. My sex life sucks and for the past five years all I have been doing is being a prosecutor!" She put down her hands and looked at Olivia who was smiling at her. "What?!"

"Did you know when you panic you tend to rant?"

"Fuck off 'Liv." Casey said as she started to pick up dishes to put in the kitchen sink. Olivia followed her into the kitchen and leaned against the refrigerator.

"Aw come on it's cute and anyway when was the last time you had a real vacation?" She watched as Casey loaded the dishes into the dishwasher and turn around to look stumped at the question. "I think to get out of this city would do you some good. When I went to Oregon I felt at peace. Even if I was on assignment."

"Where would I go? I don't exactly want to see my family..." She shivered at the thought. Olivia noticed this and automatically wanted to ask what she had against her famliy. She resisted though for she didn't want to get Casey upset. "... I mean thanks 'Liv but I think I'll just spend time reading or going to the cages. God I can't remember the last time I worked on my swing..."

"Case seriously just enjoy the time you have to yourself okay? For me, please?"

"Yeah sure whatever 'Liv and don't bat your eyes like that you look ridiculous." Laughter filled the room as they both made their way to the door.

Olivia grabbed her coat by the door and stood to face Casey. "Thanks for dinner.."

"Well you know I try to order the best take out I can." She opened the door and stood beside it. "Eh...the company wasn't too bad either." She smiled to Olivia.

"Case you better relax!" She gave the A.D.A a hug which Casey returned awkardly. "Um...so yeah I'll be on my way."

Olivia turned and walked out leaving Casey watching her until she turned the corner to the buildings' stairs. Casey sighed as she closed the door and looked around her apartment. Hmm alone again Novak. Nice.

She began getting dressed for bed, still debating what she would do for one full month. All thoughts were erased when her head finally hit the pillow. For the first time in five years Casey slept with no worries of what she would face the next day.

Deep in sleep, Casey awoke to the sound of her phone endlessly ringing by her head. She groggily picked up the phone and automatically answered with "Novak."

The sleeping fog began to disappear at the sound of the voice of her foster father speaking. She sat up with concern etched across her face. "Okay and when did this happen?" She listened carefully and then after a while she replied, "Yeah I'll come to his funeral."

Just when I thought I might I have time to relax...
