The third installment in the series. R&R. Most importantly, enjoy.

Ain't No One To Hear You Cry Out Here In The Black

Kaylee

Kaylee wasn't one to fret.

She maintained a happy personality that affected those around her.

She stayed happy and optimistic.

Most of the time.

But underneath her calm surface, fear and grief had been building up inside her. Seeing all those children, all dead and mangled, not to mention Shepherd.

The Captain was so angry. She could see it in his eyes. She loved her Captain. Loved him like a father. But sometimes he scared her.

When the Reavers came, she she started to lose hope.

She dreaded being parted from the crew. They were the closest thing to a real family she'd ever had.

She hid her fear from the crew. Didn't want to come across weak.

When it was all over, all she could do was cry. For Wash, Shepherd, all those innocent children, who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

She would go to the engine room. Her sanctuary, and she would whisper to Serenity all her doubts and fears.

She would huddle next to the engine and cry. No one would know.

Except Serenity.

Serenity would keep her secrets.

Then the next day, she'd be back to her bright, cheerful self.

No one would know.

Ain't no-one to hear you cry out here in the black.
