~~~Somewhere only we know~~~
When she closed her eyes, she saw it. The place of her dreams, pure, perfect and above all...he was there. Gently rolling hills, cool grass the most perfect kind that didn't stab you when you laid in it. Fringes of great oaks encircled the area, as she laid down, her body loose and light in a lilac sheaf dress, her shoulders bare and feet wiggling into the soft earth. Her hair pillowed her head and she knew it longer, past midway down her back. She knew he liked it that way also.
It was for him that she wore it that way.
Grass stalks parted and a man appeared, jet-black hair, the tips pointed and rather raffish hung past his cheekbones. Two locks lay between his large green eyes, observing her with gentle emotion and the tenderness of love. They were not cold and detached as she had seen them now.
Carefully, the man settled down beside her, scooting down so that they were eye-to-eye as she blinked slowly and then a tiny smile crept onto her lips. "You came." she said, as if stating a fact. He merely nodded, his own lips smiling in return, not sneering at her with hatred. His fingertips grazed her cheek and she closed her eyes at the contact, a shiver went through her. This was it. She was ready...to give all of herself to him.
She turned to him, propping herself up with her arm crooked and her chin sliding into her palm. Earnestly did her eyes look into his. Measured he took her palm, bringing it between his hands and then to his lips, kissing gently, slowly her fingers. Her breath hitched, her heart pounded. Still keeping his eyes on her, he gathered her upper torso into his embrace, holding her tightly, sighing into her ear.
Something was wrong.
"Rukia." he said, though she couldn't now see the look in his deep green eyes, she heard the catch in his voice and suspected-no-felt something wrong. "What is it?" she queried, inside she thought she knew but couldn't steel herself enough when he spoke it:
"My father wants me to marry. He says I'm his only son and as such have the obligation to provide an heir for the Schiffer family." He laughed bitterly, "not that he cares a whit for what I want. He's already picked out a girl and--damn him! I--I--only want to be with you."
She heard the fervor in his voice and he sat up, still cradling her small form on his lap. From within his coat pocket he withdrew a small box, red ribboned on a black surface. "Will you...marry me?" he asked as he opened the box to reveal a fine gold band with a single emerald as its center stone. Breathless, she took it, her hands shaking as she slid it on. A perfect fit.
"Ulquiorra...I don't know what to say--" she began but he held a finger to her lips silencing her. "Then don't. Just answer me. Do you love me?"
"Y-----"
A sudden beep screeched loudly, interrupting her dream. Startled, Rukia jerked awake, her hand going for the Soul pager. Arrancars, four of them. She wondered then if he was one of them. If he was there.
She knew it didn't end happily for the lovers who'd loved one another more than anything. Time and separation had done their part and now...she was the only one who remembered.
