Just Answer Me This

Jimmy HATED everything that had to do with that Cindy.

At least he thought.

He sat in his lab, brooding over the past few years and wondering why in the world did he have to love Cindy Vortex so. She hated, he knew that. Well, at least in public. Whenever they had been alone, things had been different between them. That was what he wanted to really find out. If it just was because he was the only one around or was it because she liked leading him on.

Jimmy decided that today was the day that he was going to find out. He was seventeen years old and he had the right to know where she stood on their relationship, or lack of. He rushed out of his lab and next door to the house that Cindy had been living in since forever.

"CINDY!" He yelled as he rang her door bell. He knew that her mother wasn't home. She barely ever came home before nine p.m.

Immediately, the door flung open and revealed a very confused Cindy.

"What is this all about Nerdtron?" She asked him, her hands upon her hips.

"Just answer me this. Do you like me in any way shape or form and I want the truth right now," Jimmy said frankly. Her blue eyes widened and she took a step back.

"What?" She asked him, unsure that she had heard what he had just said.

"I want to know if you like me at all. In a romantic way. Because, darn it Cindy, I like you. A lot. Heck. Let's just get down to it. I love you and if you don't love me I want to know straight out so I don't waste the rest of my life trying to get you to notice me," Jimmy started.

"But I do notice you," Cindy said softly.

"All you do is put me down and everything like that, but when we are alone together you act entirely different. What is the deal? Is it so hard to be seen with me in public? Am I that much of a geek? Do I embarrasse you that much?" Jimmy asked.

"You don't embarrasse me at all," she answered just as softly.

"Because if I do then I think that it is royally mean of you to sit there and make me think I have a chance with you when we are alone. I know I'm a nerd, but does that mean that I don't get a chance of love at all? I bet it would surprise you that a girl wanted me to date her this summer at Space Camp, but I said no. I told her that I had a girlfriend back home, thinking that maybe I would by this year of all years, but you still haven't noticed that I am alive, let alone that I am back from camp. . ." Jimmy started to rant.

"STOP! Don't you get it Jimmy? I DO like you. In fact I love you. You just make it awfully hard to tell. How do I tell the one boy that has ever challenged me mentally. You're always showing off that I feel like it would be stupid to pull you aside and tell you that I really do, in fact, love you," Cindy stated.

"You love me?" Jimmy asked her. Cindy rolled her eyes.

"Yes you nerd. I love everything about you. Don't you understand that?" Cindy asked. Jimmy nodded.

"I understand. Hey Cindy will you be my girlfriend?" Cindy smiled.

"Of course I will," she replied. Jimmy smiled back.

"Great!" Jimmy said and started to go back home, but turned back and returned to where she was standing on her porch.

"Just one last thing," he said.

"What's that?" Cindy asked.

"This."

Jimmy took her into his arms and kissed her softly, gently, and timidly. Cindy wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him deeper. They stayed that way for several minutes before Jimmy broke away wearing a silly grin upon his face.

"Date? Tonight?" He asked. Cindy nodded.

"Six. Don't be late."

"Wouldn't dream of it. I love you."

"I love you too."

Jimmy walked back home as Cindy closed the door to her house, both walking on clouds.
