So I got this idea from an episode in the second season where Lorelai told Luke that she and Rory couldn't think of anything better for the name of their house besides the Crap Shack. Yes I know it's really short and rather strange, but I couldn't think of anymore famous houses lol.
I do not own anything you recognize and most likely some things that you don't recognize.
Eight year old Rory Gilmore and twenty four year old Lorelai Gilmore stood in front of their newly purchased house. It wasn't near as big as Lorelai's parents house, but it was extremely nice considering that Lorelai had bought it, was only twenty four, had no college education, they were moving into it from living in a potting shed at the inn where she worked at, and that she had an eight year old daughter.
"We should name it." Lorelai said after they had stood there for at least five minutes just staring and admiring their new house.
"Like Thomas Jefferson's house, Monticello?" Rory asked, not looking away from the house.
"That's a good one."
"Yes, but we can't name it after another house, property, or estate. It needs to be unique."
"You use really big words for an eight year old." Lorelai said turning to look at her daughter.
"What about…. The Independence House? See it could be the sister to the Independence Inn!" Rory suggested, then proceeded to look at her mother who had already looked back at the house.
"Nah, not unique enough. What about the Crap Shack?"
"Mom! No, and you said that the Independence House wasn't unique enough," Rory responded irritated. "What about the Love Shack?"
"That's already taken by the B52's Sweetie. The Sugar Shack?" Lorelai said smiling down at her daughter who was now cocking her head to get a different view of the house.
"That's already taken by Tommy Roe. Neither of those are really appropriate though I guess. Little House in the Big Woods?"
"That's a book." Lorelai said, sitting down on the grass and pulling Rory onto her lap. "Neverland Ranch."
"We don't sing and we're not getting our skin color changed. Little House on the Prairie." Rory smiled up at her mom. They had both just finished reading all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books and Rory was currently obsessed with Laura.
"Once again a book and a TV show. Now don't even mention Rocky Ridge Farm, I know she lived there too." Lorelai responded looking down at her daughter and poking her nose. "1313 Mocking bird Lane."
"That's the address of the Munsters." Rory said frowning at her mom. " Mount Vernon!"
"So you think we're better than presidents now?" Lorelai asked raising her eyebrows. "The White House?"
"Why'd you complain about Mount Vernon then?"
" Winchester Mystery House."
" Scotty's Castle."
"Green Gables"
" Belmont Mansion."
"The Lorelai Shack"
"The Gilmore Shack."
"Lorelai's Malibu Dream House. Wait no, Lorelai's Stars Hollow Dream House."
"We are not Barbie's!"
The two of them just sat there for another five minutes without saying anything and once again continuously staring at the house. Lorelai once again looked down at Rory.
"The Crap Shack?" She asked in a monotone.
"The Crap Shack." Rory replied in a defeated tone. She stood up and waited for Lorelai to stand up. They walked towards the house hand in hand.
"Mom, what's wrong with the Independence House or even the Independence Shack? The Crap Shack sounds like we live in a cardboard box!" Rory asked pulling on her mom's hand as she opened up the door.
"I'm the mom and I paid for the house, that's why. How much money do you have, huh? None! I know you just spent it all on new books!" Lorelai said laughing slightly.
"Hey mom? Where's the Bellboy?" Rory asked innocently looking up at her mom with a rather confused. look on her face.
