Author Note:

Hey guys, this is my first fanfiction EVER, so do whatever you want, read it, favorite it, review it. Also, I think I made Sesshoumaru a bit OOC, but whatever. Also, any criticism will be greatly appreciated and stuff… so yeah. Bye.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any characters from Inuyasha, only this story.

The forest was quiet. An occasional chilly breeze teased the dry, brown leaves in the trees, creating a crackling sound. Sesshoumaru sat in a large limb of a tall oak., his back leaning against the thick trunk.

At the base of the tree, curled up among the roots was a young girl, Rin, dressed in an orange and yellow patterned kimono. Sesshoumaru glanced at the sleeping girl, his cold, hard eyes growing soft with fondness.

He fell into a trance, thinking about how a little child, such as herself, could break through the barrier of ice surrounding his heart.

Rin suddenly shifted and muttered something in her sleep, snapping Sesshoumaru out of his daze. He glanced down to Rin, taking notice of her face, which contorted into one of fear and pain. Sesshoumaru unconciously clenched his hands, almost wanting to… comfort her.

She jerked suddenly, as if trying to escape from the grasps of her nightmare. Sesshoumaru hesitated, trying to make up his mind, before leaping down to land on the ground silently.

He knelt down and placed his clawed hand on her cheek. She jumped at the sudden warmth but hesitantly leaned in to his touch, as if searching for trust and comfort.

He frowned at the sudden thought of someone seeking and finding comfort in him. He was the powerful ruler of the west, yet a human child found comfort in him. What would his mother think? She's already disgusted that Rin travels with me, but then again, what do I care about her opinion. He thought almost bitterly.

As if sensing the change in his mood, Rin stirred and began to wake. Sesshoumaru withdrew his hand.

She yawned and glanced sleepily at him. "Hello, Lord Sesshoumaru… what are you doing up so late? You should get some sleep…" He stared at her. She grinned drowsily at him and shifted her position, so she could be more comfortable. "I'm going back to sleep. Goodnigh-" she sentence was cut off by a large yawn, "Goodnight, Lord Sesshoumaru." With that being said, she drifted off into a deep sleep.

He stayed by her side, watching her sleep calmly, before standing up and looking at the sky. He spared one more glance at her before leapt into his tree branch.

Maybe he would sleep tonight. Just tonight. Then again, he smirked, it wouldn't hurt to stay up to stay up in case of another nightmare.

He eventually fell asleep, listening to the soft snores of the human child who had melted his frigid heart.

Hello again, I just wanted to thank anyone who took time out of their day to read my first fanfic and stuff. And, as I said before, any criticism, whether it is good or bad, will be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm going to ignore any flames and crap, so yeah. Bye.
