Written for Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge (3/3 crack pairings)

This is also dedicated to the lovely Amber (Cheeky Slytherin Lass) who was excited for this pairing

Mirror with Desire

It would show those whatever they desired. People would come to it every day, staring at their reflection just so they could see what they really wanted. It would give it to them because that was its job; to show people what they wanted to see.

Once a man came to look and it was an odd thing that he desired. That man saw another man, old and decrepit and rotting away in a prison cell. But it showed it to him, because that was what he wanted to see.

Another time a boy with stone cold eyes came to look at his reflection and he saw himself as a world leader. No, not a world leader – a world conqueror. That boy desired strange things, but they were just desires. At least for now.

A favourite one was many years later. This boy was different. This boy had a heart that longed for just one thing, and what a beautiful thing it was that he desired. It was probably also the only one where that desire could not be fulfilled.

It was a mirror that showed people what they wanted, but there was one thing that it failed to fulfil. Its own desires. No one stopped to ask what it wanted, or what it felt. No one cared. All they wanted was to see what was in the deepest part of their hearts.

When no one was standing before it the mirror was able to dream. It dreamed of many things, but its biggest dream of all was to see its other half. Just like wizards had wands from trees, it was also made from a tree and it longed to be with it again. It wanted to feel its thumping branches crashing the ground, its leaves whistling in the wind or falling to the ground in autumn. Dreams filled the mirror at times with images of its branches brushing against it.

If it had a heart it would definitely beat fast at its touch.

Those who stood before the mirror called its other half the Whomping Willow. Mistreated and misunderstood, students avoided it at all costs. Its pain was the mirror's pain, its fear was the mirror's fear. Nothing it could feel escaped the mirror. They were bound.

No one ever asked the mirror to show them what it wanted, but if they did, it would show them a whole tree again. It would show them a happy tree. If someone would just ask it what it wanted it would show them together again.

It would show them as one.

Yeah, um... crack. Yep. It's crack, okay.
