Guilty

After the team had killed Lisa, Ianto was left clearing out the basement. Everything needed to be disconnected and destroyed; nothing could remain of the cyber conversion unit that he had brought in to the Hub.

The hardest thing that Ianto had to do was take Lisa's body to the morgue. As the door slid closed he rested his head against it, taking in gulps of air. Trying to resist the urge to bolt from the Hub and never return. Managing to suppress the urge to bolt, a well of guilt seemed to coil in his stomach.

He realized it was his fault that the team had nearly died. His fault that Lisa was not allowed to die in peace. His own faults, that come tomorrow, he may not remember a thing. His fault that he'd lost everyone's trust.

"I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry." Ianto whispered, to the closed door.

"She isn't gonna hear you," replied Jack.

Ianto turned around to face Jack, noting the rather pissed off expression on his face. This is it then, I'm not going to remember anything after this, thought Ianto, the guilt clawing at his stomach now.

"Nothing to say? That's odd, considering all the begging and pleading you did to save…her." Jack said.

"I know what I did, Jack. I know it's my fault, I loved her and you can't take that away from me," replied Ianto.

"Oh trust me; I'm not taking anything away from you, Ianto,"

"Then what?"

"I'm here to make sure you totally understand what you put us through,"

"I do,"

"Do you? Do you realize that had she gotten out of this base, it would have been your fault that the human race would have been turned into Cybermen?"

"What do you want from me? I know this is my fault, but I had to try something."

"Nothing, I don't want anything," answered Jack, taking one step closer, "just if you ever, ever hide anything like that again. I will kill you, without hesitation."

With that Jack left the morgue and returned to the main Hub area.

Ianto took a shuddering breath, before sliding down to the floor. My fault that I lost the trust of one person that deserved it. My fault. Again the sicken feeling of guilt twisted his stomach up in knots as he sat on the cold floor, all by himself.
