Doctor Who: Blood Moon
The Doctor slowly stepped out of the TARDIS, shivering in the frigid night air. He looked around and saw that he was alone; the only sounds breaking through the silence were his beating hearts and the TARDIS doors clicking shut. The Time Lord suddenly crumpled to the ground, sobbing; all of his jumbled-up emotions came crashing down on him. His hearts throbbed with fresh pain; it was all his fault! He'd tried to kill Rory only a few days before; only Amy and River's combined strength kept him from finishing the job and satisfying the beast inside him. Now his beloved companions were gone, their trust in the Gallifreyan shattered forever, and the chilling possibility that the Doctor had infected Rory hung in the balance.
The Time Lord's sobbing suddenly began to cease as he looked heavenwards. As he watched, a few sparse rays of moonlight began to shine through the dense cloud cover. "Yes," he whispered, "let me go." He knew he needed this pain, not just to be set free, but to overcome the even greater pain of separation and loneliness.
The full moon finally peeled away from the clouds and the Doctor jerked violently. He clutched his stomach, shrieking in agony. Blood dripped from his hands as claws burst through his fingernails, his jacket and shirt ripping as he bulged in size. Thick brown fur began to cover him and his pained screams increased in volume as his cheekbones cracked loudly.
His face bulged out and his teeth sharpened and lengthened into fangs, tail breaking free from his trousers, shredding them in the process. Several small twangs and pops could be heard as the Doctor's heels snapped and sloped into a more digitigrade shape. His ears elongated and slid up his head; he gripped the dirt road with his claws, the remaining shreds of his clothing slowly floated to the ground. His eyes opened, a bright yellow with green and amber flecks, and the Time Lord rose onto his hind legs, transformed. He raised his head skyward and let a long, blood-chilling howl escape his throat. Then, gradually, the moon darkened into a bloodred color. The Doctor froze, silhouetted against the brick cottages. With the red light glaring down on the Gallifreyan, he roared, his eyes gleaming yellow, glowing faintly. His already large figure nearly doubled in size, claws digging deep grooves into the ground.
Human screams made him whirl around and lunge, dark red blood streaming from his jaws as he destroyed a young woman, her husband following soon after her. He roared again, truly losing it under the light of the blood moon. He then turned, leaping hard, and crashed down a few streets away. He stumbled and dawn slowly broke, light streaming over the edge of the cityscape. The Doctor struggled to stay on his feet as he shrank down to normal size. He staggered in the direction of the TARDIS, once more terrified of the wolf inside him, and wishing that Amy, Rory, and River were here to help him though this living hell.
