I knew He was going after her, He told me. But it wasn't her He was after, it was her son. But I knew her. There was no way that she would stand by and let Him kill her baby boy. It was heartbreaking when He told me that. I knew there was only one way to stop her death. I would have to betray my master and go to the enemy's gate. But it was for her. I would do anything for her. So of course it hurt me when she went off with the one person I truly hated, but it was what she wanted. I wouldn't do anything against what she wanted. I bowed at the feet of the enemy and pleaded for her life. He promised that he would try to keep her safe. But trying and doing are two separate things, so I made sure to keep an eye out at their house. I was there that fateful Halloween when He went to their house, hiding, but I was there. I saw twin bursts of green light, then a third flash and a bang. He didn't come back out. I crept in the house and walked up the stairs, wanting to relish in the sight of my nemesis dead on the ground, but I couldn't. My heart sped up and my breath sped at the sight, knowing, yet not wanting to believe that his wife was in the same state. I got to the nursery and saw a perfect arm sprawled halfway out the door. I couldn't take it anymore. I ran up to it, and when I saw her there, I couldn't hold it in any longer. I dropped on my knees by her body and held it, sobbing louder than the weeping baby whom I paid no attention to. She was gone and life was no longer worth living. It was only the quick glance at the child's eyes that kept me from killing myself. She was in him, and I wouldn't let any part of her die again. I only had to wait a decade more to protect him myself. I was not ready to die when He brought me to him, but I could do nothing to stop Him. But the boy ran up and I saw her eyes, and that was when I accepted death. She was the one who I first saw when I truly started to live, and she was the last one who I saw when I died. Her eyes were the last thing I saw, and when I opened them again to the brightest white light I had ever seen, I saw her eyes attached to her body, and knew I was home.
