"I wanted to talk--to set the record straight," she said.

The moment Lana walked into Lex's study, she knew she wanted to kiss him. His eyes flashed locking onto hers while he walked over to her. But then he mentioned how ludicrous the thought of a relationship between them was. At first, she thought he was serious, that those random, passionate kisses simply happened because Lex was not himself, and the flashes of feeling between them were only in her mind. She almost believed those kisses – those tender words – meant nothing. She watched him walk towards the fire, her heart almost breaking.

"To think that there'd be anything between us besides friendship..." she said, laughing softly. She could see Lex smiling tightly, falsely, in agreement. And then...perhaps, she thought...perhaps the idea of something more than friendship between them was not so laughable after all.

"Don't worry; talk is just a bunch of noise," he shrugged. And it was, Lana realized. They could make fun of the idea of a relationship between them as much as they wanted, but the truth was that there was something there. Something that could grow and change how they thought about one another...

"As long as we both feel the same way..." Lex continued. At that moment, it came across as an invitation. An invitation that Lana leapt at eagerly.

"...that's all that matters," she finished.

Suddenly he was facing her, and they considered each other differently than they had before. Lex leaned in and for a glorious second, they kissed.

Lana moved back gently, her lips burning from the contact. This was actually happening; they couldn't come back from this.

"You okay?" Lex asked, clearly concerned.

She stepped away from him, touching her lips to make sure t hey really existed.

"Look," he said, as if trying to make amends, "it's just something that happened."

No, thought Lana, no, not this time. It didn't just happen. There was meaning and potential and...love behind that kiss. She wanted more of that feeling, and wanted to see if Lex returned it again. So, almost automatically, she spun, grabbed his head, and kissed him. She poured everything into that kiss--pent-up love, anger, tension, confessions.

After a few seconds she realized what she had done, what she had revealed to him. She broke away and ran. But c onfused as she was, she still managed to be elated that her wish was fulfilled. She had kissed Lex Luthor, and he kissed her back.
