She had to be the opposite of him. The silence throughout her emotional outburst was like a stab to the heart. She knew his voice, his eyes, even his very being was ice cold, but she couldn't help but hope that he would return something to her.
Her voice echoed in his ears. That confession, so painfully innocent, so filled with the hope to understand his inner turmoil; it cracked his resolve for a mere moment.
A step back towards her was all she wanted. To show that this village meant more to him than his vengeance, instead of throwing away their bond as teammates. Naruto would be shattered; she would live the rest of her life knowing that her love was nothing to him. Their three cell family would crumble.
"Sakura."
His eyes bore into the back of her head. Somehow, she knew better than Naruto and Kakashi that he was leaving that night.
She didn't even hear the scratch of sandals on the ground, but she felt him when he suddenly appeared behind her. His hand grazed hers, a fleeting touch sending electric shocks through her system. Even if his heart may never stay with her, his heartbeat assured her that he was still physically there.
"Thank you."
A gasp, no louder than the autumn wind, came out of her velvet lips. Slowly, the night scene blurred, sending the young girl into oblivion.
As he carried her petite body, grasping her close to him, he caught a whiff of her blossom pink hair. Sweet, subtle, and soothing was the scent of his female teammate. Setting her down carefully, he allowed himself to succumb to one last desire. Gently, he kissed her forehead swiftly, whispering, "Be strong."
His words had underlying meanings.
Konnichiwa. I felt inspired to start a drabble collection, since my other story chapters are painstakingly long. I felt like doing something short and sweet. Stay tuned, there are more to come.
… Sorry, this is a rather overused SasuSaku scene, but it was all I had. Kinda angsty though, but I felt like something serious compared to my 'humorous' chapter five of Airway Romance. Hopefully I'll come up with other lighter drabbles (some AU or OOC) of various other pairings. Requests are accepted.
