So we were assigned prose poems in creative writing class this week... this is one of my attempts at writing prose, modified slightly to fit the KPverse. I'll have you know that while I love a good story, poetry is NOT my strong suit, so if it's lame, by all means, please grade me. And I hope the symbolism is understandable... like I said, poetry isn't really my thing. I hope you guys like it anyway...

Enjoy the show!

Best Friends

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the park, and for lunch at school, and at the kitchen table of her house afterward. Chips always accompany the the sweet, salty, gooey sandwiches. Their zesty crunch is a delightful contrast to the soft and sweet peanut butter and jelly. After sandwiches there is homework. She likes science and math. She lives and breathes adventure, the path less traveled, the moments that blow her mind, the feeling of being on the edge. She's a spitfire with fiery hair and keen eyes the most piercing shade of green he's ever seen on anyone. They harden infinitesimally when she is not happy about something or other. She's so stubborn you could use her head for a wrecking ball! He just goes along, happy to be with his best friend, having her back in all her endeavors. He's always smiling, and it makes her smile too. He has droopy blonde hair and eyes that sparkle when he laughs. He grew up making silly faces to hear her hilarious giggle, or telling silly jokes just to make her roll her eyes at him out of either exasperation or amusement. He gets an extra half-sandwich every time they eat peanut butter and jelly because her salt and vinegar chips are always too sour and she wants something to erase the taste. He always has candy in his pocket, and ends up sharing that, too. He sits down next to her at lunch like they did every day since preschool, but today something is different. He gives her a hug and a piece of his sandwich, his eyes cataloging her unusually slumped shoulders and dejected, lonely tears. She says she isn't friends with the girl anymore. He hugs her again—his hand is still holding his offering between them. He always gives her his sweets when her chips are too sour. That was how they became friends—that's why they still are and always will be best friends.
