A Day's Work
Ch.1: Path of least resistance
Mission Statement
Nightmare Enterprises: Bringing top of the line monsters to our vengeful clientele.
"We pride ourselves here at Nightmare Enterprises to meet the needs of our customers," the words were rehearsed. "we promote a wide range of diversity of specialities, we have many jobs to choose from, and we hope to meet their expectations."
Customer Service's tone of voice changed dramatically upon noticing the newest employee.
"So you arrived," he said, adjusting his black rimmed, orange lensed sunglasses. "we've been expecting you for sometime," he checked his clipboard then glanced back at to whom he was speaking to. "it says here your name is Ronnie K." he smiled. "nice nickname, what's it short for?" he asked.
"Ver-Ver-Veronica," she stammered.
"The name's edgy," he said, with a shrug of a shoulder. "I just hope you pack more of a punch then the nickname you gave yourself." he really wasn't impressed.
"About that-" Veronica said, her voice barely audible.
Upon inspecting Veronica's information further Customer Service was quick to say. "it say's here you're under contract."
Customer Service arched an eyebrow scrutinizing the alien standing before him.
Veronica felt her heart hammer inside of her chest. She held her breath as her designated Nightmare Enterprises representative read out the charges.
"Nightmare saw your potential and that's what matters," he said, reassuring her. "you've accepted the responsibility of undergoing our strenuous monster program."
Veronica felt her actions were justified and yet she was having second thoughts. It wasn't like she could cancel the contract after selling herself into indentured servitude.
Finally someone who would actually appreciate her hard work.
If it taught them all a lesson then it was worth the sweat, blood, and breath she was about to pour into Nightmare Enterprises.
"Now if you could do me a favor." he asked, calmly.
Veronica slowly exhaled.
"Step right up," Customer Service motioned her to sit down in a chair. "come now there's nothing to be afraid of." he sounded so encouraging.
Veronica proceeded to walk slowly up to the chair to take the seat.
She swiped a few bangs from her eyes to take a look at what Customer Service was holding in his hand. Her face turned pale upon making eye contact with a syringe filled a foreign purple substance.
Whatever it was for it certainly wasn't for an inoculation!
"Please, roll up your sleeve," he instructed.
Veronica obediently rolled up her white sleeved work shirt to the shoulder. Her bare arm exposed, she squeezed her eyes shut not daring to look when Customer Service made the injection.
The substance quickly took effect after making contact with the blood stream.
The world around her stretched and blurred.
"We hope you enjoy your stay," Customer Service said, in a chirpy voice.
Veronica closed her eyes wondering what was in store for her after she woke up.
