hmmmmmm what about prussia telling a story to Canada? (maybe disguising something that happen to him as a tale for Matthew but Matthew knowing better.;)) Some sweet before sleeping fluff.^^

To make up for my depressing fic and making you cry!

"But you tell the best stories," Gil pouted. Mattie shook his head, and Gil gave him an exaggerated sigh. "All right, all right." Gil smoothed the covers over Mattie, pressing a quick kiss against his forehead to buy himself some time.

"Once upon a time," Mattie prompted. Gil chuckled.

"Once upon a time," he agreed. "in a faraway place, there was a young man who had never been in love. His friends were always falling for people and breaking hearts and getting their hearts broken, and sometimes he tried, too, but he hadn't found anyone who understood him."

"What were his friends like?" Mattie asked.

"One was ridiculously sentimental and convinced that romance was the heart of the world," Gil answered. "The other was very happy-go-lucky, even though he had bum luck."

"And the young man?" Mattie asked. Gil spread his arms wide.

"He insisted that he liked it better when he was alone!" Gil said. "It was way too much fun having the world to himself."

"But he was lonely," Mattie said, this time with sad eyes. Gil felt flustered.

"Hey, this is my story," Gil said. "Do you want to tell it?" Mattie fought down a grin as he shook his head. "Okay. Well, he was lonely, you're right. But he didn't want anyone to know that, especially since his friends were already dead set on setting him up with somebody."

Gil looked over at Mattie, who was nodding off against his pillow. His eyes were half-lidded and gentle, and his lips looked softer and more inviting than Gil wanted to admit. He shook his head and focused.

"One day, though, he met the most beautiful man in the whole world," Gil said. "Just seeing him made the young man feel giddy. When he finally worked up the nerve to talk to the other man, he found out that he was humble, and sweet, and more awesome than anyone else that the young man had met in his entire life."

"The other man must have loved him, too," Mattie murmured, laughing under his breath. Gil's heart caught in his throat and he tried to keep himself from blushing.

"It's a fairy tale," Gil said. "Of course he did. They fell madly in love and got married after a sensible amount of time had passed."

"And they lived happily ever after?" Mattie asked. Gil grinned, finally letting himself sneak another kiss as he stood to climb into bed beside Mattie.

"They were happier than anyone else had ever been at any other time in the universe," Gil said, snuggling up against his husband. "And the young man's friends were jealous forever. The end."

"Thank you, Gil," Mattie said, rubbing one cheek against Gil's arm before pressing a kiss into his palm. "For the story."

"Thank you, Mattie," Gil replied, nuzzling the back of Mattie's neck. "Sleep tight, little birdy."
