Hey, Alix here! This is rather old, and while I edited it (a lot) I can't help but feel like it's missing something quality-wise. Ah, well. Maybe someday I'll try to fix it up a bit.
I do not own the Harry Potter franchise, Draco, Harry, Lucius, Safe and Sound, Taylor Swift, or The Civil Wars. Sadly enough. Think of all I could do with them…
Edit: I had to take this down and remove the lyrics (apparently we're not allowed to use song lyrics in fics, which I was stupidly unaware of) but hopefully it still makes sense. I recommend listening to the song as you read it, but heck, do whatever you want.
Safe and Sound

Your gray eyes were clouded, tears overflowing to trail down your pale cheeks. "I'll never leave you, Draco," I had whispered. But your light was dim-you were close to breaking. Their shadows, the darkness of the evil, almost killed you. Your inner beauty had been tarnished by years of pain and sorrow.
"Don't leave me here, all alone." You cried, standing, but I turned, walked away.
I had to go.
But that's not important tonight. Our past isn't on the table. Things we've done to each other no longer matter, only our future mistakes we pray not to make.

You're leaning up against the wall, rubbing slowly at a little piece of wood you found. There's nothing on it but rings and dirt, but you stare at it as though it contains all the answers, as though it'll protect you.
It won't protect you. I will.
"I promise," I whisper, but you can't hear me. You can never hear me.

"Draco, don't." I say as you glance towards the window. "They're out there, just outside that wall." You look at me, terror evident on your sharp face, and I almost regret telling you.
"Are those supposed to be words of comfort?" You ask, the ghost of a familiar smirk crossing your features. I roll my eyes, but I need a distraction. We both do. So I start to sing.
The comforting words sooth you, lead you down the path to sleep. I can't help wondering how much they'll help when we're gone. When everything's gone.

"Draco, get some sleep. Shhh, don't worry, you'll be okay. No one -not even Lucius- can hurt you anymore, because I'll protect you." You look up at me with fear in your eyes, and I brush a few strands of silver hair away from pale skin. "It'll all be okay. We'll be just fine." Problem is, I'm not sure I believe my own words.

The sun is rising now, and we can see the blood staining the fields outside our little cabin. You woke a few hours ago, and for once, you didn't protest to my wrapping you in my arms.
You twist and face away from the window, towards me. I trace small patterns on your arms, thoughts and emotions and prayers never to be spoken.
I'm going to protect you, make sure you're okay, just as you will for me. It's clear, written all over my face, and it reassures you.
"We'll be all right," You whisper. "Harry, we'll be all right."
