A/N: Luna's mother is not given a name in the Harry Potter books. I named her Bea in this fic. Enjoy!
Luna dangles her feet off the edge of her bed, watching them swing. There is the blur of red, then white as she stares at her mismatched socks. She sits there a long, long time hearing her roommates get dressed and watching her feet swing.
When the door closes on her roommates as they leave the room she decides she had better get dressed. It takes a while to convince herself to get up and when she does she moves very slowly. It takes her five whole minutes to do up the button on her pants and ten to tie her shoes.
She drags herself to the end of breakfast but does not manage to eat a thing. She goes to Charms, Herbology, Transfiguration, and Potions without processing a single thing her professors have said. She cannot seem to think. Not today. She doesn't even make it to the Great Hall for lunch. She eats in the kitchens, where the house elves do not question her.
When she arrives to dinner, tired and with her mind less here than usual, he sees her. Until now, he hadn't seen her all day. That had worried him. He knows today is important to her. Their eyes meet and she gives him a weak smile. Draco raises his glass of pumpkin juice and mouths 'Happy Birthday Bea Lovegood'. He sees the tears drip down her face as she nods, lifting her glass as well.
In loving memory of Carol Hansen who died on 1/12/2010 just six days before her birthday.
