Celestia and Luna each got a new pet recently. Luna got a kitten she named Crescent Moon and Celestia got a phoenix she named Philomena. Now, Luna had raised a phoenix when she was a filly so she knew what to expect when Philomena started losing her feathers and getting really sick. Celestia, not so much.
Celestia and Luna were in the kitchen eating breakfast when something happened that Celestia wouldn't forget. Luna was holding back laughter as she was eating. She knew what was coming and she couldn't wait to see her sister's reaction. Philomena was standing on Celestia's shoulder, her condition deteriorating. Celestia didn't seem to notice because she just kept eating her breakfast cake like she didn't have a care in the world.
" Luna, what is so darn funny?" Celestia said after she took a bite of her breakfast. " Oh, nothing. I just have a feeling that something is about to happen that's going to be "burned" into your mind forever." Luna said, trying to hold back the laughter. " Was that a pun? You know I hate puns." Celestia said. " Oh, what are you going to do? " Fire" me?" Luna said, clearly about to burst out laughing.
" Seriously Luna, stop it." Celestia said, clearly starting to loose her temper. " Oh. I'm sorry sister. I think it's because I'm coming down with something. I am feeling really " hot." Luna said, snickering uncontrollably. " How can a fever make somepony use bad pu..." Celestia was saying before she got interrupted by something that scared her horribly . Phenomena had burst into flame and turned into nothing but a pile of ash on the alicorn's shoulder.
Celestia screamed. " Ahhh! Philomena! What do I do? What do I do? Mother of me! What do I do?" Luna burst out laughing at her sister's reaction. " Reaction, totally priceless." Luna said between laughs. Celestia gasped. " Luna, how can you be laughing ? My pet is dead! I-I must have done a spell without thinking. T-That has to be ..." Celestia was saying before she got interrupted again by something.
Through the p-pile of ashes emerged a happy, healthy phoenix that was Philomena. " P-Philomena? H-How?" Luna explained everything about what had just happened to her sister. Celestia blushed embarrassingly. " O-Oh. G-Guess my reaction was a bit bad. Now I understand why you were using those bad fire puns." Luna just burst out laughing again. She couldn't help it. Her sister's reaction, in her words " Totally priceless."
