Cutter's family had been taken away by Rayek thirteen years ago. Kahvi, chieftess of the Go-Backs, was in her cave about to give birth. She was attended by ShenShen and Clearbrook. At dawn she was folding her new daughter in her arms. Clearbrook left the cave to tell her tribe about the child. "She gave birth to a healthy girl," the elder stated. "Can you tell who the sire is?" asked Cutter Clearbrook looked down, " She has blond hair and blue eyes. She looks like you, my chief. Kahvi has asked to see you." Cutter maid his way to the cave. Dread was sinking in. What would his beloved Leetah think? What about Suntop and Ember. Kahvi was sitting up on her bed of furs. SheShen was holding the infant, sing softly to her. When she saw Cutter come in she placed the child in his arms and left. He couldn't believe it. There was no denying that he was the sire. Kahvi saw how he studied the babe. "Yes, she's yours. Maybe she can help you find your happiness." Cutter was stunned by her show of tenderness; he knew it was something she did not show it often. He sent to the cub, letting his mind touch hers and fills it with loving thoughts. "Go show her off. I need my sleep" Cutter left the cave as the tribe gathered around. A small smile on his lips he announced to the tribe, "She has a Wolfrider's soulname. The tribe my call my daughter Hope."
Now you may want to know why the story is called Sorrowsong. Well Hope grows up with the Wolfriders, the whole tribe raises her because Cutter can't get his head out of his ass about Leetah and the twins. She wants to know when she would become chief, Cutter tells her never because Ember is next in line for the chief's lock. Anyway, the more Cutter pushes her away the more Hope acts out. She loves the stories about her grandfather Bearclaw and starts to act like him. She even wins a favor form the troll king Picknose. She has him make her a wolf head necklace like Bearclaw's. Sometime down the line she renames herself Sorrowsong.
