Under a candle lit street light a little girl shivered. Alone and in the cold she waited for her friend who would bring kind words and ,if she was lucky a little food.

The girl was thin, with bright blue eyes and a smudged face, about seven or there abouts, and wearing a dress that was several sizes too big, that might have been light blue once, but was now grimy and torn from overuse. Not to different form any other street urchin you would find in Tonon, the capital of Alenanden, neighbor to the kingdom of Solron, with in famous capital of Capital, the sun city.

But their was one thing unusual about this girl, one distinguishing feature.

Her hair.

Twenty-seven feet of it to be exact.

Oh, it was pretty, raven colored and glossy, pulled up into a enormous knot to keeping from dragging in the dirt.

She peeked out from under the eave which she was sitting, shyly at first, then taking a 360 degree scan to make sure no one was around to see what she was about to do.

She started to sing slowly, quietly, under her breath, so as know one could steal her words

Suddenly her hair lit up, glowing by some inner hidden force most of in glowing black but some strands shone sapphire blue, some garret red, some emerald green, others dark purple, a few even gleamed like the purest of diamonds.

Her shaking hands went is to her hair, savoring the warmth it gave of for on this damp, cold night no one would give the little girl shelter from the miserable conditions.

All of a sudden thought the freezing mist came a figure, a tall and willowy adolescent with extremity long hair, just like our urchin. She wore a fraying burlap gown, with canvas patches in the elbows, with a rope tied around her waist to give the dress an allusion of fitting her slim body. Her hair was strange to say the least with the top being jet black and the bottom was a silver platinum blonde.

The little girl smile it looked like her face would split in two. "Loonmarea" she cried as she ran to hug the older girl tightly around her middle.

"Hello to you too Asteralis" she said to the girl fastened securely around her torso.

After she was detached from Loonmarea, Asteralis split the small loaf of bread, giving the younger girl the bigger piece.

Asteralis looked at the older girl meaningfully, knowing she would be gone in the morning.

She smiled down at her and answered her unasked question.

"Yes, I have found the third daughter of the prophecy, just as promised you one year ago."

She looked down at the wide-eyed child and explained.

"She lives in a tower guarded by a witch. Her hair is like sunlight and her eyes like spring grass and …"

She cut off as the child started snoring, shaking her head with a small smile on her face.

She lifted the child off her lap and laid her under her eave.

Some day we will all live together in safety, someday soon little one, someday.

And with those words she walked back, by herself, back out in to the cold wet gloom.
