It's cold in Karakura Town. Rangiku wonders if Gin notices for all the fire.
She wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. Gin's always shown an almost supernatural disregard for a hostile climate, be it literally or metaphorically speaking.
He's wearing white now. Just another way he's rejected the Shinigami, rejected her.
Rangiku's ice blue eyes search him out from across the battlefield while she can still do it without drawing a sword. God, how she hoped, how she prayed that this day would never come.
She wonders if he notices she's there. Absurdly, hoping beyond hope, for one moment Rangiku cherishes the thought that he might acknowledge her presence, that he might greet her, look at her, do anything to show that he knows she's there.
He doesn't. Of course, he doesn't.
It's as if Gin is pointedly looking away from where Rangiku stands on air, feeling the ground give beneath her and abandoned even though she thought she'd already gotten over this.
There's nothing for it now.
The gulf will just have to get wider.
And Rangiku would be alright with that, if Gin would just turn, and look at her one more time, before the fall.
