Disclaimer: If I owned Merlin, this scene would take place somewhere in the next episodes... The sooner the better.
A/N: Struck around 2 AM. Just needed to write this down. No beta. Don't sue.
She was sitting on her bed, her knees to her chest. She didn't look terrible or evil now. Just a young woman, lonely and frightened.
"Morgana?"
Her head shot up right at once to the sound of his voice. Her fragile stare hardened.
"What do you want."
Not really a question. Yet he heard one behind the spitted words. Merlin approached the bed, cautious.
"I came to apologize. I'm sorry Morgana."
"How touching."
Her glacial eyes moved away from him.
"Please Morgana…"
"Leave me alone."
Merlin came nearer. She retreated immediately farther on the bed. But she was looking at him again, her beautiful face holding the expression of a wounded animal, ready to fight for its life.
"Everybody turned you down. I should not have. I know what it's like, to be different and to live in fear."
"You know nothing."
"Trust me. I know."
Merlin raised his hand and murmured some foreign words. All the candles in the room lit, chasing the shadows to glow softly on her delicate skin. Morgana momentarily panicked look turned into a fierce distrust stare. Her lovely mouth was pinched into a thin line.
"I should have told you, last year. You were afraid and I didn't help when I could have. And I hurt you. I'm sorry."
"You told me to go to the Druids."
She remembered that. She remembered…
"I went to the Druids, and Camelot Knights massacred them, Arthur in the lead."
"You know he didn't want to. It was…"
"The King's orders. Of course. My beloved father, Mighty Uther, so prompt to murder innocent women and children for 'Justice'."
Merlin sat on the bed. She looked so small in her white dress, so small and lost in her bitterness.
"Please, Morgana, let me help now."
"You can't. It's too late."
"No, it's not. You don't want that. I know you don't."
"Leave me alone…"
It came out like a plea, this time. She was so pale… Merlin held his hand toward her.
"Leave me alone!"
The burning candles extinguished in an angry gush of wind when her pain exploded. Merlin didn't push away, still offering his hand.
"We love you, Morgana. I do, and Gwen, and Arthur. We love you. We need you by our side; please Morgana, come back to us…"
"I don't know how."
Tears were watering her beautiful eyes. Merlin wrapped his hand around hers; she was trembling.
"Just listen to your heart. You don't have to be afraid. We love you. We'll help."
"I've seen terrible things… The Evil I've done…"
"We'll undo it. Together."
"You promise?"
She was a little girl again, who just needed someone to fight the darkness for her. Merlin grinned.
"I'll do my best."
He leaned forward and pecked her cheek, backing off quickly with a furious blush.
"Don't tell Arthur I did that! He'll have my head…"
Morgana smiled back. He realized it was the first real smile he saw on her in a very long time. It brightened her eyes happily and the reflection of her old self reappeared, the caring beautiful lady she'd never stopped being.
"I won't tell. Thanks, Merlin..."
The end is only the beginning.
