A/N: I decided Robbie & Sophia needed a Christmas story too :) Hope it's not too corny!
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Robbie's Christmas Angel
Four year old Sophia Ross peeped around the curtain, searching the crowd for her father. She knew that he'd been working very hard on a big case, but he had promised her that he would be there.
She frowned a little when she spotted the empty seat where he should be sitting.
Tears stung at the back of her eyes as her kindergarten teacher stepped forward to welcome everyone to their Christmas performance: it looked like he wasn't going to make it. And she'd worked so hard to keep her part in the play a surprise.
Sadly she dropped the curtain and moved back into position; she wiped away a stray tear with the back of her hand. She wasn't going to let herself cry, he had promised to be there and she believed him.
Her Daddy had never made her a promise that he didn't keep.
Out in the audience Robbie slipped quietly into his seat, ten minutes late but still in time to see the children perform.
Sophia had been uncharacteristically secretive all week, keeping her part in the play a big secret. Robbie had indulged her wish to surprise him, even though she could have been second tree and he still would be proud.
He was starting to worry about what part in the play she would be playing until the teacher announced the entrance of the angel.
He was so busy laughing over the three small boys who were playing the shepherds and their exaggerated surprise that he didn't pay attention to the little girl dressed as an angel.
Not until he got a proper look at her and realised she was Sophia.
She caught sight of him in the audience and beamed, before stepping up to the microphone.
Robbie wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but his face broke into a proud smile as she started to sing.
"Fear not for I bring tidings of great joy
For in the City of David Christ is born
Come to the stable door, to the manger of straw
Where the Prince of Peace has been born"
Upon later reflection, Robbie conceded that he probably had been a little too enthusiastic in his applause following her solo; but he didn't care. He was so proud of his baby girl and he didn't care who knew it.
