"Dean, you coming?"

"Be out in a minute."

One last deep breath to gather his thoughts.

Team Free Will was about to make their final stand with one last-ditch effort to circumvent the apocalypse. One way or another, everything would end tonight and it came down to Sam.

For Dean, it always came down to Sam. Even after everything, Sammy was still his weak spot.

He'd lived too many lives, buried too many friends, and lost too much hope. If anything happened to Sam, it would be the final nail in his coffin.

There would be nothing left of him….

A/n: The second I read the word of the week was "nail" I thought of my favorite Alkaline Trio song, "Continental." The chorus in particularly inspired me: "You had nine lives and one by one you chewed them up. Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much. 'This won't take long,' you said, 'I'm not going far. Go wait in the car…'" The song just has this deep sadness and desperate edge at the end… just heartbreaking for that kind of music.
