Just a short little drabble that popped into my head while reading some fics. not slash but there is kissing.

At Any Cost

Neal Caffrey took pride in the fact that, sooner or later, he always won his arguments. Sure, he let people believe that they had bested him but he always knew that in the end he would be the man on top. It was that simple fact that had him so frustrated now.

The argument had started off with a simple comment. Peter was annoyed at Neal when he was flirting during an undercover job. Neal of course didn't think anything of it, why let a good opportunity pass? Of course Peter didn't see it that way so when they got back to the FBI building he confronted Neal on it. Neal of course retorted back saying that the girls had given him good information on the suspect which just made Peter scoff.

"Yeah, I'm sure their phone numbers are great information on catching a jewel thief. You were flirting, that's all that there is to it."

"It's not my fault that I make everyone speechless when they see me," Neal shot back with his usual smile.

"You do not make anyone speechless," Peter said suddenly annoyed at his cockiness.

"At one point in time I can guarantee that I have made everyone speechless."

"Well not me."

Neal suddenly got really serious, which Peter had soon learned wasn't always the best result for him, "challenge accepted Peter," Neal said and walked out.

"What challenge!" Peter yelled after him a bit worriedly.

That was how this whole thing started. That was why Peter was in such a good mood and Neal such a foul one. It had been almost a week since that argument and he had yet to do something to leave Peter speechless. He had tried and said everything that he could think of, well everything that wouldn't find him back in jail. And then it struck him, but no. No that would definitely earn him a one way ticket back to supermax, even if it was legal.

But then again, Neal was bordering on desperation, and this would surely leave Peter speechless. Neal stared up at Peter at the head of the table, talking about a case which Neal had already solved. Suddenly Neal got up and walked over to Peter.

"What are you doing Neal? Were going over a-"

Peter had wanted to say case but couldn't as Neal pressed his lips onto his. Peters mind stopped, Neal was kissing him. The kiss was probably only a second long but to Peters racing brain it felt like an eternity. Why was he kissing me? Why in front of all of these people? What was he doing? Questions raced through his mind, bordering on the incoherent. After Neal broke the kiss he stared at Peter who was trying to say something but no sound came out.

Neal beamed a winning smile and said two simple words before walking out, " I win."

It only took a second for Peter to get what Neal was talking about. That stupid challenge Neal talked about! He ran to the door after him and in all his fury yelled a single sentence, "CAFFREY! YOU ARE SO GOING BACK TO JAIL!" but he was already gone.
