Prologue
"Arthas."
The wind whipped up clouds of snow, howling and shrieking as it blew through the forgotten lands of Northrend, endless white deserts of ice and stone that a mere few had seen with their own eyes and lived to tell the tale.
Countless snowflakes surged forward, flying above the very earth where a great battle had been fought, its traces hidden deep beneath the snow, weapons and broken contraptions the sole hints of what had taken place. The wind blew yet again, fiercely and relentlessly, sending the snowflakes into the valley, crashing into the endless undead army pouring out of it, brushing bone and dented steel, passing through empty sockets and gaps between frozen flesh while rattling and clinking sounds echoed throughout the valley.
And the Lich King stood atop of it all, watching in silence, his white hair swaying in the wind, his glowing blue eyes piercing and deathly cold. With the world at his feet and the spirit in the Helm of Domination now silenced Arthas was finally ready to finish what he had started, savouring the thought of the battles to come.
"My king," Anub'arak rasped as he came, clicking his mandibles, his sturdy purple carapace covered in snow. "The living returned to this land not long ago and made it their home, pestering our forces while you slumbered. We found their encampment not too far from the southern shores."
Arthas swept his gaze across Frostmourne's glinting blade, its runes glowing softly as if eager to sow death. "Perhaps it is time they knew fear again."
Notes:

- This work of fanfiction is a retelling of the story of Arthas which will loosely follow the events in the online game (some things will be completely different, some very similar). It will stay true to the events in Warcraft III and its expansion, The Frozen Throne.
- This is also part of the universe established by my other work of fanfiction, Warcraft: Return of the Lich King, which revolves around Bolvar as the Lich King.
- I don't know when I'll write the next chapter, as life is keeping me very busy, but hopefully it will be in the near future.
