Prologue
I am frozen. Here I am, watching a girl on the television very much like myself. Same goals, same strategy, and same skills. Our goal is to stay alive under the capitals wrath, our strategy is the star- crossed lovers, and our skills are hunting and gathering.
Hello, my name is Linda Topian and I was a tribute in the 38th hunger games. I grew up in District 4, the fishing district. I am a daughter of a very successful fisherman. I am not going to go on about how miserable my life was because, in fact, it was very happy childhood. There was always food on the table and no leaks in the roof. At the beginning, everyone thought Katniss Everdeen wouldn't last a minute. She proved them wrong.
Chapter 1
On the day of the reaping it was my twelfth birthday, I wore a floral dress and my long blonde hair in curls. I am an only child so my parents only worry about me getting slaughtered. If my name got called it would be a death sentence. I walk out of my house and onto the beach. My ocean blue eyes watering at the thought that I might not see this again. Then, Seth Odair plops down beside me. "Hey, how are you?" he said like he wasn't worried at all.
"I'm nervous, very nervous," I said, my eyes tearing up again. Seth takes his sea foam shirt and wipes my eyes. He is my best friend.
"You are going to be okay, as Sunshine would say, may the odds be in your favor!" He said trying so hard to cheer me up.
"I know that they are in my favor, but there is always that 1% chance that I will be the capitals toy this year," I said trying to pull myself together.
"Linda, you are going to be fine and even if you get called you will dominate the hunger games. Oh, and Happy Birthday," he said pulling out a small box. I open and all of a sudden I see the bright side of things. In the box, was a hand craft pearl headband. "I love it, it's perfect, you always know what I like," I cheered. We hugged and then walked to the town square. At the town square we got checked in and separated into two different sections, boys and girls. There stood Sunshine Bobble, the capital representative, all happy and excited to find out who the new bunch would be. She was so eager and I was so scared. The she took the bowl full of names and pulled it out all too quickly. She called the name and everything became dead silent. I drop to the ground, it was my name.
