Tenten's Last Name
By Kisoku no Yanagi
Disclaimer: I haven't done this in a while. Naruto obviously doesn't belong to me, otherwise I would be drawing it instead of writing this. This fic, however, does belong to me. If you think I'm taking it from Lukannon at NarutoForums, think again. I am Lukannon.
One morning, a girl with chocolate brown hair and eyes of the same color woke up. She cast her eyes around the room, locating a pink, sleeveless shirt, some baggy brown pants, and two hair ties.
As always, the girl slowly and methodically put on the pants and the shirt, making sure that not a single unecessary wrinkle was created. Slowly and methodically, the girl smoothed the clothing with a single hand. SLowly and methodically, she did her hair up into two disproportionate buns.
Cue snickering.
Her morning ritual complete, the eight-year old brunette suddenly changed, turning into a beaming ball of joy. Bounding down the stairs, she ran out the door, barely hearing the cry of,"Tenten, be careful!" from the neighbor, who, for some reason, had never learned Tenten's last name.
"I'm goin' to the ninja 'Cademy, I'm goin' to the ninja 'Cademy..." Tenten sang, skipping down the sidewalk. For some reason, people could hear her capitals.
Finally reaching a large, one-room building, she swung open the door, and, still skipping, plopped herself straight into the nearest seat, her feet still beating a staccato as they unconsciously continued in a skipping pattern. People stared.
Five minutes later, a chocolate-haired man in a funny green vest, who introduced himself as 'Iruka-sensei' asked for the class to come up and tell him their names, as no roster for the class had been made.
One by one, the children recited their surname, and then their given name, until at long last, Tenten's turn arrived. She laughed and giggled, then with an airy twirl, opened her mouth to utter her family name.
Suddenly, she found she couldn't remember her family name. No matter how much she cast her mind about, she could not remember it. Being an orphan, she had no parents to ask about it; but she was sure she knew it before now!
Iruka leaned a bit closer, concern on his youthful face. "Um, excuse me? Are you alright?"
Tenten shook her head, dismayed at the thought of losing her last name. Out of reflex, she zoned out, leaving her mind on autopilot.
"Tenten. Just Tenten." She heard herself say. And those words sealed her fate for the rest of her life.
Around her, the class burst into laughter, questions threading through the tapestry of noise. "Is your last name Ten?" "Were you dropped out of the sky?" "Can I eat the big odangos on your head?"
(Fast forward to after the Chuunin exam)
Tenten sat under a tree, sighing. Life was good, she was a strong shinobi(though admittedly, she hadn't passed the exam(Though really, who would care about that if your village was attacked by a bunch of ninjas and a giant tanuki?), and nobody was bothering her.
"Ne, Tenten-san!"
Scratch that last one.
Opening her eyes, Tenten noticed the little shorty who had beaten Neji staring at her. Nodding at him, he suddenly brightened up, and asked in a perfectly innocent voice...
"So, is Ten your surname or something?"
Tenten stared incredulously, then threw her head back and screamed.
Well. All done.
Soujiro: Done with what?
With this.
Soujiro: What's this?
…er, this…um…never mind.
Gojyo: -hic- Gimme that boozh! –hic-
…That's…that's a bottle of chemically enhanced anthrax.
Gojyo: -hic- Gimme!
No. Go away. Anyways, I know this isn't my best piece of fiction(or maybe it is), but still. I liked the idea. Please review, anyways.
