Charlie
Charlie Weasley woke with the sun most days. Thursday, May seventeenth, 1990 he awoke as the sun was stretching its rays into his open window, just like Charlie was stretching his arms up to the sun, and it was as if they were saying good morning to one another. He sat up in bed and ran his hand through his thick, wavy, stubborn red hair and thought about how this morning, just like every other morning, he wouldn't be able to do a thing with it.
He yawned and scratched his chin (still no stubble, he noted with momentary disappointment), and stood to stretch his toes and look out the window, like he did every morning. He'd removed the curtains years ago because he always said "a view like this shouldn't go to waste". And the view really was spectacular-the sun's rays were just starting to rise over the mountains and touch the grounds of Hogwarts, a truly magnificent display-but Charlie would have chucked the curtains and said the same thing he always did even if the view was of a gnome's backside or a nasty old alley or absolutely anywhere else, because he just loved to feel the sun kissing his skin to wake him up every morning.
As he looked out the window he saw a Hippogriff a good distance away walk across the grounds, give himself a shake, and then take off flying. He saw the giant squid splashing about, and a few deer grazing on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, and Dumbledore taking his usual walk across the grounds to have breakfast with Hagrid. Students weren't usually up this early in the morning, just as the sun was rising, and Charlie mused that this was probably the reason so many of Hogwarts' usually shy animals would come out in the open-all was peaceful and still and calm without silly students running about playing and fussing over their exams.
It wasn't that he didn't like his classmates-on the contrary, he was quite outgoing and warm to almost everyone. He loved to tease and laugh with the younger ones, and even got along alright with a couple of Slytherins when they weren't on the Quidditch pitch. It was just that before the day began, before he could be energetic with his friends and curious in his classes and excited about everything the day would bring him, he had to look out his dormitory window and witness the world going on below him and breathe it all in for a few private, special moments.
Charlie Weasley headed out of his dormitory on Thursday, May seventeenth, 1990, ready and eager to face the day.
