The story isn't only about the love story between the bad mouth eve anderson and the good hearted sal fisher. this is a story about eve anderson's life going against the world.
the year is 2000, making at least at the characters nineteen years old or twenty. they all are probably sophomores in college already.
the event taking place in 2002(3)? hadn't happened so sal never killed anyone or larry didn't commit suicide.
and one final thing: eve is black. i know it's not a major thing but some things like that us dark skins girls go through will be heavily implied.
