"I want to take you out on a date. A proper one." Adam said, avoiding Eric's gaze.
They were sitting outside on a bench behind the school, eating lunch. They sometimes did that, sit together in a hidden part of school, where no one could sneak up on them and see them.
They had been sleeping together for a few weeks now, and neither boy had ever seemed happier.
"What?" asked Eric. The question had taken him by surprise.
"I want to take you out on a date. To a nice restaurant, sit and eat together, you know, that sort of stuff." he was picking at a loose end at the bottom of his jeans.
"But what about..." Eric trailer off.
Adam knew what Eric wanted to say. What about all the people who will see is and then treat us like trash for being gay?
"Look." Adam said, as calmly as he could. "We'd just seem like two friends going out for a meal. We don't need to kiss or hold hands or anything. At least, not until we leave the restaurant..." he said that last part almost under his breath, but Eric heard him anyway, and that got a smile out of him.
"Okay, I'm in." Eric said.
"Okay." Adam lit another cigarette and started inhaling, trying to hide his smile while imagining their first date...
