~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She ran as fast as she could, trying to keep up with her brother.
"Sam, wait!" She called desperately, panting. The boy, Sam, turned and stopped running.
"Spirit, it's no good. They'll catch us; we have to fly." He urged, and Spirit nodded, too exhausted to say anything. Sam spread his wings, their 14' span filling the small clearing they were in with dark brown, speckled feathers. Spirit opened her wings and took a running leap.
As they flew off, a few black feathers, fletched with dark purple and blue, floated back towards the ground. A tall, handsome, man strode into the clearing, leading a small army of flyboys. He snarled, realizing his pray was gone already.
"But they won't escape again." He promised, catching a long black feather.
I really loved not moving around anymore. It was totally odd for me to say that, but now that the flyboys left us alone, I didn't worry about safety as much. And learning to retract our wings helps alot. Yes, I, Maximum Ride was turning into a big softie.
I probably couldn't even beat Fang in a spar anymore. I really should practice some more, I thought sadly.
Angel's voice broke into my head.
Max, breakfast is ready. And I think you could beat Fang.
Okay thanks. But remeber, no mind reading. It's rude.
Yeah. You know Iggy won't stop thinking about- oh right. Sorry.
I chuckled quietly to myself as I heard her voice recede from my mind. I got up, got dressed and headed for the kitchen.
