Disclaimer: Kubo Tite…wow.

Unsaid

"Tell everyone I give them my best"

What else can he say? Nothing he says will change the situation that they are in and maybe this proves that some things are better off left unsaid. His fist slightly clench harder under his pockets.

"Okay…" she whispers as she lowers her head.

That may be a good thing because it gives him a moment to control himself. He gazes down at her, hoping somehow time slows down for a moment because he knows time isn't kind enough to simply stop. The silence helps to prolong this unwanted goodbye - more reason to just keep still. He steels his resolve to stay quiet only letting his hidden fists betray his stoic stance. She lifts her head and he sees her eyes, her beautiful eyes. He doubts he'll ever see such beautiful eyes ever again. Such colors will seem wrong anywhere else. He inwardly smirks when he sees what a sap he became. He can see this is just as hard for her. He knows her that well and he knows it's just the same case for her too. Her eyes are pleading him to be okay, worrying about him again. He silently indulges the moment. No one else will be here to whip him into shape when he has a moment of weakness. No one else made him stronger like she did. He knows she wants to say something just like he does. Million words, thousands gestures, anything.

But he can see from the edge of his eyes that she's fading away – fragments dissipating through the air. What can he do? More and more of her is fading away and if he even so blinks it may be all over. He doesn't have the luxury to change this course anymore. Somehow he doesn't feel any resentment just a sense of... loss.

"Goodbye, Rukia" his voice croaks.

And just like that she's gone.

"Thank you."

"Tell everyone I give them my best"

"Okay…" she whispers as she lowers her head.

What else can she say? He has done so much, more than his best. Now he has more than earned his right to lead a normal life that is meant for him. She just didn't expect it would be this hard.

She lifts her head to see him and meets his gaze. Immediately her brows furrow when she sees his caring gentle eyes. She's really going to miss him. She's not even sure how much right now, it is simply incomprehensible. What will her future hold without him in it? He needs to be happy and she is robbed of the chance to assure that for him. He should be happy it's more than what he deserves. She wants to make sure he will be. She wants to say something, anything.

But what can she say? So many things and yet all of them don't seem adequate enough for the moment. And to clutter this moment with unnecessary words and gestures seems… wrong.

"Goodbye, Rukia" she hears his voice soft and rough.

He looks up to the sky.

"Thank you"

She feels a trail of tears roll down her cheeks and she's silently thankful at least he couldn't see her cry. She nods and turns to walk through the Senkai Gate. She turns her head to look at him one last time. No words she says will be heard and even if they could she honestly had nothing to say without losing the firm grip of sanity she has. She just knows some things are better left unsaid.

A/N: A very short and very quick one-shot I whipped up. I teared up. MY GOD I teared up reading Chapter 423. I was waning on my IchiRuki inspiration and BAM! Kubo Tite just busts it out. Reviews will be much appreciated :].

No flames.
