A/N: Prompt for 20heartbeats community over at LiveJournal. Prompt #11 – Late.

Leon drummed his fingers on the table, a habit to show that he's growing impatient. He glanced at his watch for the fifth time that night. It was already 8.00 p.m.

Damn it Cloud, he thought. You should have been here an hour ago.

It was his and Cloud's first anniversary dinner together. Leon had pulled out every favor he had to arrange this special, private candlelit dinner for the two of them.

A single candle stood glowing in the middle of the table. Two glasses of wine were at either sides of the table. The bottle of wine used to fill the glasses up was also in the middle of the table. In front of Leon was a plate of roasted steak and in front of Cloud's empty seat was a plate of chicken alfredo; Cloud's favorite dish. Leon even managed to hire someone to serenade them.

It could have been a perfectly romantic setting. But the food was slowly turning cold and the candle was almost out. Leon stopped drumming his fingers on the table and instead chose to fold his arms over his chest.

He waited for another half an hour and there was still no sign of the blonde man. Leon sighed. He raised a hand to call the waiter.

"Cheque, please," he said sadly.

Meanwhile…

Cloud was rushing to get dressed. He was taking care of the Heartless and after that, he decided to take a short nap. When he woke up, it was already 7.55 p.m. and he cursed inwardly. He was supposed to have his anniversary dinner with Leon fifty-five minutes ago!

As soon as he got himself dressed, he rushed out of the house. When he reached the restaurant, he quickly spotted the table that Leon booked. He quickly walked towards it and his heart dropped when he saw that the table was empty. Apparently, Leon had waited long enough and left.

"Leon must have spent weeks planning this," he mumbled softly to himself.

A note in Leon's smooth handwriting was on the table. Cloud took the note and unfolded it.

Happy anniversary, Cloud.

You're late. Again. Or have you forgotten?

Leon.

Leon, Cloud thought sadly.

END.

A/N: Heh. I know, it's kinda plotless, but I had to get myself started or else I'd never start on it XD
