A cold breeze drifted through the open window, surrounding the room in a comfortable medium between hot and cold. Remus rolled around in his bed, snuggling into his favourite teddy. He was safe in here, nothing could get him. If they tried, he could just alert his parents and they would attack the creature for him. His parents would protect him, he just knew it.
The window creaked. Remus blinked, rubbing his eyes sleepily. When he looked up again, a dog-like creature stood in front of him. "Doggy!" Remus said, clapping his hands together.
The creature moved closer to his bed, showing off long, sharp teeth and a wicked smile. Remus inched backwards, drawing into himself. He whined softly, fear prickling in his mind. The creature loomed over him before sinking his fangs into Remus' skin. The young boy screamed, pain seeping through his body. People rushed into his room but he couldn't hear anything over the sound of pain and his screams.
A loud bang cracked through the room, shocking Remus into silence. He hurt, so bad, but nothing would help. He felt shaking arms sweep him up. "You'll be alright, my son," his mother said, her warm voice soothing the cold inside.
His breaths were shaky, but he was calming down now. He was still in so much pain. "Lyall, take him to your hospital! I don't care about your prejudices, make sure my son is alright!"
There was light muttering before strong arms took him. He was feeling drowsy now, weakness taking over. Maybe if he just closed his eyes for a little while…
When he next opened his eyes, he found himself in a bright room. Yawning, he turned, to find his father beside his bed. His father looked at him with tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry, son. This is all my fault…"
Those words struck his heart like cold knives. "What's wrong, daddy?" he asked. "I will be okay, right?"
"Of course, my son," his father said.
