Song fic to The Book Of Love by Peter Gabriel. Finn thinks back at his relationship with Rachel and of his future with Rachel. Before Michael, set after Yes/ No.

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing

When he's with her in glee club, he's a whole new person. He lets go and makes a fool of himself, by dancing with her. But he has fun. Plus, after booty camp, he's been improving. A little bit.

But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything

Her voice is soothing. Whenever he is stressed out, or if he has a load on his mind, he goes straight to Rachel. She helps him sort his life out. She has belief in him, which no one else has. He tries to prove to Rachel that he can be somebody to be proud of, but he doesn't know how yet.

The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb

When they sing together, it's beautiful. Music brought them together, and that's when they listen to each other, fully.

But I
I love it when you sing to me
And you
You can sing me anything

He listens to her when she sings, because she means every word she sings. She sings to him, a lot. His favourite song is Without You, because it was so meaningful. She meant every word, and so does he when he tells her that he loves her, and she blushes.

The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know

He doesn't get romance. He's been told he is romantic by Rachel a lot of times, but he doesn't know how to be romantic. The star he got her at Christmas was romantic, and writing Pretending was romantic, but he doesn't know when he does it. He just loves her so much. He knows he has time to learn all about romance, so he shouldn't rush, but he'd do anything to see her smile.

But I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings

Is it crazy that he can imagine his future with Rachel already? He can see them having a family and growing old together.

And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings

He can see their wedding day. He can see Rachel walking towards him, in a lovely white dress, with her hair curly, trying to not fall in the heels Kurt picked out for her. He can see his mother and Burt, sitting down, smiling at him and her two fathers leading Rachel down the aisle.

And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
You ought to give me wedding rings

That is why he meant everything he said when he proposed, and he hoped that she'd say yes. He just has to wait for a reply.
