Haruhi glanced out of the window above her kitchen sink and dropped the breakfast bowl she was washing. She ran out the door and down the outside steps, not even bothering with shoes.
She reached the stone wall surrounding the apartment complex and tugged harshly on the back of the shirt the six foot tall blond was wearing. He turned and she punched his chest.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She snapped, punching him again.
"I wanted to see you." Tear tracks were evident on his face, red stripes on cream. Haruhi scoffed.
"Right. Because telling me to shut up and get out of your life wasn't enough." Tears welled in her eyes. Tamaki gasped.
"I never said that!" He protested. She glared at him.
"It damn sure felt like it!" she nearly shouted. "Do you know how bad that hurt?" A few tears escaped. Tamaki's face crumpled. "Do you hate me or something?" Her tears kept falling. She buried her face in her hands.
"I… I could ne-ever hate you…" Tamaki's voice was thick. He was crying. It was then that Haruhi realized that he wasn't being dramatic. "If I d-don't c-cut off all t-ties with you, Gr-grandma will expel you!" Haruhi suddenly felt as though her tears were irrelevant. "I-I had to s-see you one l-last t-time…" The brunette ignored all common sense and wrapped her arms around him.
"I'm sorry." She apologized quietly. He returned her hug, holding her tight.
"It's okay. You didn't know." He whispered into her hair. "I'll make you a promise." He pulled away slightly to look her in the eye. "As soon as Grandma is gone, I'll come find you. I promise." Haruhi smiled.
"That sounds good, Senpai." Tamaki visibly cheered up. He pressed a light kiss to her forehead, not noticing the way her face flushed. He pulled out of their hug completely.
"I should go now. I'm probably being missed." He made to leave, but she grabbed his wrist, stopping him. "Haruhi, I really should go…" The blond motioned to the gate. She avoided his gaze. He almost kissed her forehead again, but it was as if she expected this. Haruhi turned her face up at the last second and kissed him on the mouth. He kissed her back for a second, then pulled away. "That was…" Haruhi smiled.
"On purpose, yeah." She finished for him. He laughed. "Don't forget your promise, Tamaki-senpai." She reminded.
"I won't! I'll see you again, Haruhi!" And then he was gone.
Haruhi slowly made her way back to her apartment. She sat down at the table, completely ignoring the call of unfinished chores and weekend homework, and cried.
