My giant leap for man:

Disclaimer: I do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT OWN SCRUBS.

As the story goes, for want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the horse was lost. For want of a horse, the rider was lost. For want of a rider, the message was lost, and for the want of a message, the war was lost. This is the kind of emotional dribble Newbie would feed you, but I'm not buying it. Isn't it easier so say that details matter, rather than go off on some psycho babble old Japanese saying? I'd imagine so. Well, anywhoo, I do have a story to tell you, and by God, you better just buckle right down and take a listen. Be careful not to miss anything, because my dear, the Devil is in the details.

I was treating a coma patient, when Newbie came up behind me. I didn't hear him, or feel his hot breath on my neck. I smelled him. That delicious cologne he always wears that makes me crazy, makes me think I might actually like him. I stiffened and waited for him to make himself known. When he didn't, I knew I'd have to initiate.

"By God, Newbie, you better be in here to tell me you cured cancer, because I really really really really really don't want to babysit right now." I turned. He looked odd, as if he'd just been kicked a few times.

"Mrs. Edimen died." He whispered, and the whole world crashed. Mrs. Edimen was our favorite patient. She'd gotten HIV from a blood transfusion in '76 that saved her life then, but killed her later. It turned in to full blown AIDS, and her immune system shut down. There was nothing we could do.

"Why did no one page me?!" I hissed, too angry to say anything else. Newbie pointed to my waist, and I looked down. My pager wasn't there. I pulled him out into the hall and began to berate him.

"Listen here, Little Orphan Annie, you could have at least called the Nurse's station. I can't believe, here Newbie, that you wouldn't find a way to get ahold of me. What's the matter, did you bestest girlfriend steal your boytoy? Are you so dense not to know that when people die, you page their doctor!" I hissed, missing the crushed look in his eyes due to the annoyingly hard taps to my right shoulder. The rude, "What!" died in my throat as I swung around and found myself face to face with the 19 yr old girl I never expected to see. Blue eyes stared back at me attached to an all too familiar smirk.

"Dr. COX!" Newbie whined behind me. The girl ignored me for a moment.

"Hey, June, untie your panties, and SHUT UP." She said, and turned back to me.

"Hey Dad." The room spun for a moment, and I fell gracefully (and man-like) to the ground.

"Pansy." I heard her mutter as my vision blackened.

I've been wrong
I had plans so big
But the devil's in the details
I left out one thing
No one to love me
And no one to love
