Greetings, one and all! My name is Mind Jack, and I hope this notice finds you well.
Today, I am here to announce that, in order to prepare to start writing SotH after a long hiatus, I am creating a new story: The Golden Mountain Tournament. It will be a story-based tournament. Who wins is inconsequential. It will be based mostly on drama and character interaction, with the tournament as a framing device.
I will be accepting from 10-16 OCs, depending on how many submissions I get. However, there are some special rules for OC submissions. Keep in mind, my OCs will follow these same rules.
Rule #1: No overpowered or mystical characters, including chi magic. Po and the pandas learned it in the movie through a rather grueling ordeal, and there were no advanced chi-users before that. Even Shifu could barely grow a flower. This tournament takes place between movies 2 and 3. So no advanced chi magic will be possible. Any special ability that they have MUST BE a result of their physiology or fighting style. Super Strength and Speed are alright, so long as they are well-balanced.
Rule #2: Your character must not be related to the main cast. They cannot be personally taught by Po, Shifu, any of the Furious Five, or the villains. More obscure characters are alright, such as Mei Ling. This is to enhance creativity of the submitted characters, which leads me into…
Rule #3: The character MUST be CREATED FROM SCRATCH and NEVER HAVE BEEN USED BEFORE. In addition to boosting my own creativity, I want to boost the creativity of the KFP fan community. The best way I could think of to do this was to make everybody put their thinking caps on. Create new characters, while potentially stepping out of your character-style comfort zone. If you have trouble, and need some help, I am more than willing to give an assist.
Rule #4: No killing. The Golden Mountain Tournament will be a legally-sanctioned tournament, so any killing done by a competitor will be treated as murder, and reacted to as such. They will not be forgiven and allowed to keep competing. They will be ejected from the tournament and likely arrested.
Rule #5: Keep it T rated. I know there are some writers who like to give nsfw aspects to characters' fighting styles. I have nothing against that. This rule- again-is to make people go outside their creative comfort zones, and expand their horizons.
Rule #6: Details. Details. Details. When you give me a backstory, go the whole nine yards. When you give me a fighting style, give me a full moveset, instead of just a little paragraph. Give your characters a personality that is shaped by their backstory. Drag them through the mud. Make them fly off the page when I even look at their description. Again, I am more than willing to help with this step, just in case some of you aren't used to giving that much detail.
Rule #7: If you are a guest, and you submit a character through the comments, please name yourself. That way I have someone to attribute the character to besides "guest."
I know this seems like a lot of rules, but my reasoning is that it might foster creativity in the community, something I would really like to see. I hope you all enjoy this tournament, and good luck.
Until we meet again…
Mind Jack, OUT!
