And as Hidan sat in the waiting room for what seemed like forever, he couldn't help but wonder why he didn't try to stop it.

She'd obviously been upset, and she'd obviously been unstable, but Sasuke's words were all that was on his mind when she got into that car.

"You'll never be good enough for her."

And now he knew it was true, because while he sat there, alive and well, her life hung in the balance. And Sasuke was standing against the wall opposite of him. But for once, he wasn't smirking. Because he knew that it was his fault, just as much as it was Hidan's.

Neither of them spout angry words, or glare the way they usually would. They're just silent.

It's weeks after wards, and there's still no word, and Hidan realizes that no matter what he does, he'll never be able to make up for that night.

So he packs. He packs his car, and he drives. He drives well beyond the borders of Konoha, straight through Suna, and even farther than that. And as he drives, he fingers the small velvet box in his coat pocket, wondering what could've been.

-

She wakes up, and when she does, he's sitting beside her, holding her hand, and smiling like there's no tomorrow.

She knows him, she swears she does, but for some reason, she just can't grasp his name. But she clutches his hand back, none the less, because it's familiar, and it's warm. It's her only comfort in that strange room, and it warms her in a way that the blankets can't.

"I'm sorry…" she whispers, frowning to herself. "But I-I can't remember your name…"

This dark-haired boy looks hurt for a moment, but then he seems to understand, and he smiles again. "It's Sasuke." he says, "I'm your fiancé."

-

She's happy, she really, genuinely is. But sometimes, she get's these dreams. And there's this beautiful man with violet eyes, and snowy white hair.

Just like with Sasuke, she swears she knows him. Maybe before the accident.

And as she fingers the diamond engagement ring on her finger, she wonders what could've been.

"Are you okay, Sakura-chan?"

She glances over at the dark-haired girl next to her, as she puts the car in drive, a smile gracing her lips.

"I'm fine, Hinata. No worries." she assures, and her eyes shift to the road, as she catches a glimpse of a man on the side of the road.

He stares back at her with violet eyes.

A/N: Another Hidan/Sakura story. With a dash of Sasuke/Sakura. It's part of a series I'm doing. Only the next story won't be a one-shot. And Sakura/Hidan is imminent. Hee.

It's an intro to the next story, as it mentions a part of Sakura's life that Hidan wasn't aware of. In the next one more will be explained, if you bother to read it. It also introduces Hinata, who will also have a large part in the story, along with several others. It'll be up soon...I hope.
