"I just thought we would be together for eternity. She was mine Garnet. She gave me purpose in this world… in this universe. All I Know is Rose."
Garnet looked off into the sinking sun, "You have to give your life meaning pearl. You have to know what you stand for."
"I stand for her. And all that comes along with that territory... Even Greg." She huffed.
A small chuckle escaped Garnet's lips, "I keep waiting for you to figure out that everyone has their own feet. They don't need you to stand for them."
Pearl stood up and turned to march away, "What's funny Garnet, is I once believed you, and then I lost the only thing I had."
The Beach City sun glimmered over the water as the two gems parted ways for the evening.

Humans don't understand the love that gems have for each other. It is beyond any emotion that they could begin to fathom. Greg didn't deserve that love. Love he didn't even understand, or properly appreciate. I remember the very first time I danced with her. Fused with her. Was truly one with her essence. I felt complete.
When we left Homeworld and decided to defend humans, I didn't understand it at first. I stayed to be with her mostly, but now I question if I made the right choice. If we had stayed, I would still have her to myself. But being here, seeing how passionate she was, is really why I fell in love with her.
Rose loved the act, feeling, adventure that love is. It was more than just meeting and wanting to be together. She loved love. And while I couldn't understand that, I admired it and everything else she loved.
Including Steven.

"No Steven, like this."
Pearl lifted his arms so the shield covered his face.
"You have to pay attention to things like that. I can't have you losing an eye or your head for that matter."
"Pearl I'm tired, Connie and I wanna go get donuts. We've been practicing all morning." He whined.
Her face glowed red, "NO ROSE I won't-"
A heavy silence fell between the three of them.
"No Steven, I meant Steven." Her eyes shifted to the floor, "I-l can't"
"Pearl." Steven held her hands in his, "It's fine."
"Yeah let's just practice for a bit longer and then we can go." Connie added.
Pearl sighed, "You know I just worry about you. And even you Connie. You two are just… just so great together. I want you to be the very best you can be."
Steven smiled, "and we will be. We have a great teacher."
Pearl felt her face heat up.

It was Rose in his eyes. And her hand in mine. For a few seconds I felt her again.

This is just a detour. This is just a detour.
