Lt. James D. McEdward was walking down a corridor in Deep Space 4. His normal post was as the conn officer on the U.S.S. Triumphant, but he had been called to the station for a top secret meeting. He was sweating, nervous about what the meeting was about. He had never really liked anything secret, although he had been called upon to participate in missions like these many a time. He walked into the ready room where he was supposed to meet. The double doors required a security code, which he quickly entered and the doors slid smoothly open. Already seated in the room were four officers, all around the same age as he, gathered around a small box.
"Welcome, Lieutenant, we've been waiting for you. May I get you a drink?" an old admiral, who he had not noticed before, was seated in a chair at the back of the room.
"No thanks, let's just get to the meeting," said James. When the rest of the officers heard this, they walked over to their chairs and took a seat.
"Ok, you're all probably wondering why you're here. Well, it goes like this. Exactly twenty four hours ago, we recieved a transmission from one of our spies on Romulus," he switched on a recording. "As you can hear from this recirding in a Romulan meeting room, the Romulans are plotting to disrupt peace between the Federation and the Dominion," suddenly, the tape came to a crackling stop. "However, the Romulans discovered the listening device and destroyed it. Our spy has had to go into hiding to avoid being discovered. You, an elite band of five officers, will find out what the Romulans plan to do and try your best to disrupt it." The admiral tapped a few buttons, and a map of a section of Romulus came up. "This is where the meeting was held, and where we believe they are planning to disrupt the peace. You will be transported down here, in this clearing, and will follow this path into the building. Your shuttle leaves in an hour. Right now, get to know each other. You will be spending the next month, or even more, with these people. Dismissed."
Relieved, the officers got up from their seats and began socializing. James found out who the others were. One, an Asian female, was a Commander named Jenny Leong would serve as their Medical officer. The next person that James met was a both African and Caucasian female named Kristina Freeman and was a expert on Romulan culture. He would help them pass as Romulans. The third was a Bolian male, X'arath, who would be their experts on prosthetics in case one of their disguises was damaged. The third that James met was a Vulcan male named Varek, who would be their science officer. The last was Yanith Johnson, their commander for the mission.
