He wonders what it would be like to kiss her.

It's a odd thought, considering who she is.

Scott Summers, undeniable Boy Scout, boy next door, and all-around-nice guy, wonders what it's like to kiss a teammate.

Worse, he wonders what it would be like to kiss Rogue, the "angry goth girl", loner, and not-so-nice girl next door. (1)

And yet, he can't… help be attracted to her. Oh, he knows the consequences. He knows that it would only encourage her crush, and hurt both of them in the process.

But he's still attracted.

He feels like a moth drawn to a flame. Powerless and unable to stay away. It's almost addictive.

He felt the first inkling when they were quoting Shakespeare for an English assignment. Knowing he should ask her to join the X-men, but too captivated by her completely natural beauty to pry open his jaw.

He knows she's beautiful under the make-up, he can tell. It's something she seems to radiate, and no amount of make-up could cover it. He's often speculated to what she looks like under all the eyeshadow and mascara and lipstick and God knows what else.

He knows it would never work out. He wonders why he still thinks of her that way. She's angry, and cold. Almost unfeeling. He imagines it almost as if, with every person her powers mimic, it takes away a little bit of her to accommodate the growing crowd.

He's had countless people tell him he and Jean are meant to be. He even believed it, at one point. Now, he doesn't know what to believe. So, he goes to school, he studies, he protects his city, and he wonders.

He wonders what his teammates think about. What they think of him. How they are affected by him.

He wonders if Rogue is affected by him.

He can't stop thinking about her. It's unhealthy, but he can't stop. He tries to ignore her, and tries to go on with his life, but it doesn't work.

He's addicted, and there's nothing he can do about but wonder.

Again, let's have a big round of applause for the lovely ClaudiaR for beta-ing!

1.) A slightly veiled reference to two-parter I wrote, Princess Next Door. Because I have to shamelessly self-promote. ;)

Okay, a ridiculously short piece I came up with that's barely a page long. It was meant to show a more reflective side of Scott, and I once again turned it into a Scogue fic. I gotta take a break from that pairing already.

It's a big step away from my usual style, which usually entails a bunch a corny one-liners and some odd-yet-funny situations. This is a bit deeper, and a little sadder. Also, much more cryptic. I mean, I'm no stranger to confusing people, but this is different.

Maybe I'll try writing something about Jaime… That might be cute.
